“El Gaucho” in Monterrey, Mexico. Fantastic steaks cooked over a mesquite wood fire. It’ll have to remain a memory, however, as Monterrey is unbelievably violent right now as a center of the drug wars in Mexico.
There is a little Thai restaurant in Newport, TN, of all places, that hubby and I enjoy visiting. We enjoy all sorts of ethnic food, and especially like Indian – the hotter, the better.
We went to the Klondyke in Northern Idaho just last night. Best prime rib I’ve ever tasted. They only serve it on Friday until it runs out – so you have to get there early. The place was packed.
It seems like that is all that ever happens when “the girls” go out to eat. My wife comes home depressed because they never talk about anything good, just the bad stuff.
Depends on what I’m in the mood for. Pasta House has the best salad. Olive Garden has the best eggplant parm. Red Lobster has the best scampi. Dierbergs grocery store has the best smoked salmon. Bread Co has the best summer salad. A little local BBQ place called A&M has the best smoked meats. Lamberts, home of the thrown rolls, ir really good too, but I’ve only been there once.
My fave restaurant ever was a place called “The Deli” in Phnom Penh Cambodia. The food was great and it had AC!!! We spent $15 for 12 people to have lunch, Awesome!! Not easy to get to though from NY so not sure when I will eat there again. lol
Aw Gee, Tony! Well, The Queenston Heights Restaurant along the Niagara Parkway was FANTASTIC and a BEAUTIFUL view of the Niagara River. The Gananoque Inn in Gananoque, Ontario, Kelsey’s Neighborhood Bar and Grill in Niagara Falls, Ont., the Antler’s near Ithaca, NY, The Rose and Crown in Kingston, Ont. And I guess around here, mostly the chains, Red Lobster and Olive Garden.
There used to be a really great waterfront restaurant at Rye Harbor, NH, called Saunders but they closed their doors in 2010. They razed the restaurant, a long time favorite in the area, to make way for 4 luxury home sites from what I understand.
My favorite place was Amigo’s in Shawnee, but it burned down a few years ago. They had a lime/garlic chicken dish I loved & I’ve tried to replicate,(with limited success) and the best Salsa Fresa and the best Queso I’ve Ever tasted! sigh!
@Tony, I have a number of favorites in the cities where I stay, and it depends on whether it is just me with my man or a large crowd of people (and who’s paying – LOL).
And the last time I was out with any “girls” was a couple of former co-workers and we mostly just talked shop. I never like anything depressing when dining. And we went “dutch” because I always had 2-3 cocktails.

As I’ve said before; anything good, fast, and inexpensive. Food trucks are popping up around here. Greek poutine everyone!
