It’s like a chemical compound… or even an atomic property… one side has something, and so does the other… one side is lacking something, so is the other… but something holds the bond together, and when the two elements/chemicals mix, something is lost, gained and shared…. this is a human version of that…..

what simpsonfan2 said. Its like Evans is doing what everyone else is doing – introducing a couple gay characters to prove he’s all hip with the LBGT community. Got a real “Brokeback Mountain” vibe going with this one (or these two as the case may be – I think he’s been setting up Gunther as gay for a couple years).

In the August 5th & 6th panels, Quill said he had to convince his PARENTS about returning to the US to complete his high school year. Now he tells Gunther that his father died BEFORE he was born. I think he’s a con artist. Working for TJ will reveal the truth.

Fans are getting a little over the top here. Two males can become friends without being gay.

Of course, there’s no football or baseball or hockey as an obvious connection to justify the friendship. The only possible explanation is…they must be gay. ( sarcasm).

With all due respect to gays, this type of thinking…or supposing…must only serve to make you all feel…so like a deer in a headlight. There is always some neanderthal who has to immediately draw such a prejudicial conclusion.

If these two characters were classed as such from the get go, the comment wouldn’t be as relevant. However, when a lovely young fellow and a quiet unassuming fellow are pronounced to be gay when that is not a fact, the commenter shows more about his own character than do the storyline characters.

Good grief! I am sick to death of hearing about homosexuals as if they own the world. What is the fascination with them?

    *

Yeah, it’s getting old here. If either of these characters turn out to be gay, I’ll eat a hat. Horrors! Sharing a room—what’s the world coming to?! I have theories on what the fascination is with homosexual relationships, but they deal with why women like to read about them. With guys, I assume they’re insecure about their own masculinity—seeing gayness everywhere—or gay themselves and want to read about gay relationships.

@Michael Pearce…Gunther was the character who said he was born after his dad died, not Quill. As someone suggested, read previous strips to get a clearer picture.

Quill was an ‘accident’ child whose parents are much older. It follows from that that he has a lot more leeway in doing what he’d like to do rather than what he has to do.

Quill is a remarkable lad who would make any parent proud. They trust his judgment implicitely and are supportive of his endeavors…even sending him off to America to get a more international education.

oh please. Gunther has been pining for Luann for years and is not happily in lust with Rosie or whatever her name is. There’s been no indication that Quill is anything but straight. 2 guys can be ‘bros’ without being gay. There’s already a gay character in this strip anyway (Brad’s boss) so it’s not like Greg Evans has to “prove” anything to anyone by being “hip” If this arc makes anyone uncomfortable or creeps anyone out I think that says more about you than it does the strip

This is not a gay arc. Just because men express affection for each other does not mean they are gay. Gay or straight, affection and liking another person is a good thing, and those on this blog who are afflicted with this silliness need to check their intolerance bone, and get a life. It does appear that Quill needs a family life, and did we forget Luann, a hottie if ever there was one? Geeez Louise, catch a breath people. Oh and before I forget Rosa??? I hope we get beyond this prejudice, and enjoy this arc for what it is, introduction of a character who will definitely affect deeply the life of the person this strip happens to be about, and many of her friends as well.

I finally lost my temper enough to go look up what was meant by “three thumbs.” It’s a reference to a dream Luann had where Elwood gave her three thumbs up for her performance in West Side Story. I read the whole arc about the play and cannot see anything that seems like the remotest suggestion of anyone being gay. There is quite a lot about Gunther trying to swallow his jealousy about the attention Luann is showing Quill.

Okay, the gay speculation is just tired. Quill is not gay. He just isn’t. Not the way he looks at Luann.

Gunther wouldn’t be so nervous about kissing Rosa if he was gay. Trust me. I’m gay, and in high school, before I dealt with it, I tried dating girls. They didn’t make me nervous. Boys sure did, though. I just didn’t get why that was until later.

If ANYONE’S gay, look no further than TJ. He’s never shown an interest in women…he rejected Ann Eiffel and I think Tiffany?

Anyone want to take odds that Q decides to let the Bergers sponsor him for a “green card” and that he comes to live with them in the US permanently? Thus, his new “permanent” home, while Greg/Karen decide the future direction they’ll take with Lu, Q, Guth & Rosa?

AND we also thought (silly us) that our parents were doing us a favor by helping us learn stuff we needed to know when we moved out to live on our own. But now you’ve entlightened me. You need to open your mind a bit more. There have always been families where both parents worked, or there was a single working parent, and kids would come home from school and start the meal. Today, there’s an explosion of reasons why kids are handling this type of work, not the least of which is the increase in diabetes and the need for a kid to keep his or her blood sugar balanced. The best way is to learn what you can eat and eat at regular, set times and that often means making your own meals. To me, the abuse of kid is DENIAL of access to food, not teaching the kid how to fend for himself or herself in the kitchen. Watch the Food Channel some time; they feature kid cooks a lot……………….. I’m sure you think it’s funny to compare cooking for yourself to driving yourself to school or writing an absence note, but you really need to take a second look.

He’s had years of being around Brad who’s gone along with everything he says. How will he handle it when Quill objects?^^Hey that would be interesting… which would be a first in a MPQ arc, on the other hand, do we really need another “I’m MPQ, and I can’t do anything wrong” Thread? My mother would make a lot of her own clothing and some of mine as well. Just being around that all the time, some of the skills rub off. Same with cooking. If the kids are not sitting on the couch playing video games while dinner is be prepared.

I realize now that when you said: “Espero que no sea más…”,I assumed the wrong intended “subject” for the sentence… I thought you were generally saying: “Hopefully you won’t be messing up the language anymore” (which would be fair, since it’s tough trying to keep Spanish, French and English going in the ol’ memory banks at times)….. but it was more in line with the unfortunate issue in question… With that, I’ll rephrase my response:– ¡Yo creo firmemente que no son más que eso! Brothers And Sisters album, Allman Bros. Band“Boss Of Me”, They Might Be Giants (appears also on Malcolm In The Middle) – “Brother Mine”, Suzanne Vega“Daniel”, Elton John“Have You Ever Seen The Rain” CCR (based on Tom Fogerty, John’s brother and former bandmate who was leaving the group at the time) – “Sister Christian”, Night Ranger (cheating, but also politically correct, to include our dear female counterparts, so :-P, Lol!) -Believe it or not, “Sunny” was written by Bobby Hebb in response not only to the assassination of JFK, but also the murder of his brother, which happened close to that time…. though the lyrics are seemingly sung for someone named Sunny, whom he says he loves in the song, he had expressed that he used his appreciation for his brother as well as JFK to fuel the lyrics, and he’d hoped to keep a “Sunny disposition”, which is how the song got it’s name..

It looks like Quill and Gunther are going to get along famously! How sad that he had no-one special in his life to cook or bake for him, if only for special occasions… ;)

“Gunther’s Mom not only has time for HER son…” Does anyone know if Gunther’s Mom works outside the home? ;)
