…well, in a sense, it is true – if the police officer had been visible, then herman would have slowed down, resulting in safer streets – if you hide the police in speed traps, then you are not making the streets safer, you are just collecting revenue…I know the argument is if drivers think there may be speed traps they won’t speed, but I’ve never seen that happen – they always think “It won’t happen to me” and continue speeding until caught, or THEY SEE A POLICE CAR…so although I do not have ANY problem with speeders getting ticketed, (and no, I have never received a speeding ticket) I really don’t think speed traps contribute to safer streets, which is what the police and their political masters are always proclaiming…
The problem isn’t so much the speeders, it is those who drive beyond their abilities, those who can’t focus on the job at hand, etc.Speeding is something they can measure, they can’t measure attentiveness.
That’s like what my driving instructor said to me when I was in high school…..“If you hadn’t been drunk ,and, if I wasn’t looking at a Playboy magazine you wouldn’t have hit that parked car!”(That’s just a story I tell people about Ray Drysdale my driving instructor)
“I only speed when people hide behind bushes.”or“I only speed when law enforcement officers hide behind bushes.”or“I always speed when I think I can get away with it.”

If a motorist speeds through a forest, and no speed trap is waiting, is that person really speeding?…
