Back in the day (late-1980’s) I worked for a cellular phone company. This is before the nationwide networks we have today. The company was proud that it owned and worked out deals with cellular companies up and down both US coasts and with a Canadian carrier.
Their claim to fame is that you could start a call in San Diego and drive all the way to Miami (via Canada) and not drop the call. My wife could have made that call.
