I put my grandkids on a money diet for this Christmas. In years past I have bought things from their list, usually 2 or 3 different things, but this year, only 1 thing and some cash and that is all. I have 7 grandchildren, 3 children with spouses, and 3 step children with 2 grown grandchildren on that side so. Yep a definite money diet.
I think that now-a-days kids are so spoiled that even in families on welfare it is considered a necessity to have multiple TVs. When my daughter last visited, we had to rent a TV for the livingroom so her son could play there (NOT all the way upstairs!)
These days a second-hand tv goes for $5-20 depending on size and age. It has to be pretty big and new or you can’t even donate it to the thrift stores; they won’t take a little old one because no one will even pay $5 for it.

You should not have told dad that. Now he’ll talk to them before you do.
