Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau for December 26, 2013
Transcript:
Trainer: As important as it is to avoid gaffes, language isn't really the issue, gentlemen. It's your policies that are hurting you... policies like opposing equal pay, defunding Planned Parenthood and Head Start, opposing the military sexual assault bill-- these are not women friendly policies. It's why you're losing women voters by a significant margin, with young women, the margin is huge! Republican 1: Young? Including the hot? Republican 2: Wait, we're losing hot women? Trainer: Yes. Sadly, they're a subset.

No Jennifer Lawrence for you.

I was surprised to hear that the majority of sexual assault victims in the military are male. Even so, it was the women in congress pushing for reform of the rules about how these cases are dealt with.

Hey, not ALL the hot women work at Fox News!

The Republican sensitivity training is about policies that are bad for women? Don’t think so. Only learning to talk better.-Still the same policies in panel two, along with legislating for gun violence.
Linda Pearson almost 11 years ago
The point, the point! This is first time someone has said it straight. I do hope some of them read this.

All depends on whether they have brains or not.

Without bein’ paidYa fergot that part…
montessoriteacher almost 11 years ago
Yes, it is important to avoid insensitive language, but it is mostly a matter of policy which is the problem. I could have sworn someone mentioned that in the comment section, though maybe not in the toon itself.

@Clark Kent: You underestimate the appeal of money to hot women.
JohnHerbison almost 11 years ago
I often wondered about how much of the push for impeachment of Bill Clinton was driven by Republican House members who were jealous because no twentysomething women paid attention to them.

The solution is obvious enough: Get the Supreme Court to overturn the Nineteenth Amendment, the way they overturned the Civil Rights Act (and by extension invalidated the Fifteenth Amendment). The Founding Fathers — the original Tea Partyers — didn’t want women or non-whites muddying up the voter pool.

=====And how many ‘model/bunny type babes’ wouldn’t waste time with any extreme jerk at either end of the political spectrum who stereotypes her as a model/bunny type babe instead of a person? Thatt’s a REAL funny observation….
Argy.Bargy2 almost 11 years ago
The middle aged hideous blobs in panel 4 are as polar opposite of “hot” as one could get. No “hot” woman, or any woman, would want to be within a billion light years of them.=========
The fact that you think this is a very important point in this particular discussion is one of the reasons why I hope you have no daughters. If you honestly believe that all women think that all men are slime, I am sorry for any woman related to you.

Who is this guy who thinks he knows how to tell republicans what winning policies are? They know it all. Wouldn’t be there if Boner hadn’t made them go.
TCulberson almost 11 years ago
why for GT to skip and create a strip about non issues to avoid saying anything about ACA, etc.
Bob Blumenfeld almost 11 years ago
“How many of them marry right wing, WASPs?”
How many of them are WASPs?
montessoriteacher almost 11 years ago
There have been many strips leading up to this one, in which we have discussed the fact that public policy is what matters, far more than what a politician does in his/her own personal life.

What Rubbish!!! This cartoon strip can be interesting, but when it descends into bashing anyone who is not on the far left, it’s a total waste of time. Garry Trudeau’s talent and intelligence have been completely overcome by his left-wing fantasies and prejudices.
kaffekup almost 11 years ago
Since you can brook no disagreement, obviously you are wasting your time here. You will be sorely missed.
montessoriteacher almost 11 years ago
The GOP has done an excellent job of bashing themselves. They make it too easy for comedians. GT is only reflecting the very things that the GOP has been up to. Fantasy or prejudice is a far cry from what is being depicted here.
Swalb%515 almost 11 years ago
Depends on how many Benjamins the right wing WASPS have in their wallets, and accounts.

One of the men in panel #4 looks like Dick Cheney. He even has his ugly scowl.

There are many people of both genders who care only about superficialities such as looks or wealth in a prospective partner. That being said, there are many people of both genders who have nothing but superficialities such as looks or wealth to offer a prospective partner. That being said, all else being equal superficialities such as looks or wealth are not bad things to have when looking for a prospective partner. That being said, those who are well above average in superficialities such as looks or wealth sometimes are not motivated to develop deeper and more lasting qualities. (If you can get an “A” without trying, why bust your hump trying for an “A+”?)

It is sad that so many of you think attractive women married to unattractive men are nothing but a variety of prostitute interested only in money, power, social status and that they are getting their sexual satisfaction from others..
Surely women are better than that.If not, what is the point of wanting better men?

Lost his touch years ago. Used to be genuinely funny and could make those with opposing views laugh at the humor. Now, the funny is gone and the snide Or just plain nasty, unfunny) has replaced it. The occasional chuckles are dwindling to the point of no return….as a regular reader, that is.

Also, on this holiday, let us remember Jacqueline Gingrich, first wife of Newt Gingrich, who was served divorce papers, while she was dying from cancer, and he was cheating on her. Such a sweet guy he is. She departed from this life on August 7, 2013.
kaffekup almost 11 years ago
Since you are getting no return on this strip, you, too, will be sorely missed.

Funny that no Lib makes a comment on my link that shows Obama pays his female staff far less that their male counterparts. No surprised…
