You could go to the school your father coaches at, but their curriculum might be below your standards.

But seriously, reach. Then go wherever you can study your chosen field, because these days, where you go isn’t half as important as what you study.

These days, maybe if you’ve got the wherewithal, that’s sufficient. My dad advanced a grade and graduated from HS a year younger than his classmates. After serving in WW II he applied for Yale and was denied because he came from a poor family. And then there’s Dubya…

College/University is, nowadays, one of the WORST bargains out there. Never mind Grade Inflation rendering your Degree practicaly worthless, the PRICE has exceeded Inflation EVERY Year since the 70’s (on Average)

Some of the more Vocationally Targeted Schools CAN be worth it in terms of getting necessary “Certifications” but the “Liberal Arts” Degrees just load you with Debt (That NOW can’t be discharged through Bankruptcy) and are WORTHLESS on the Job-Market. Read the Books at home if you want to but the Classes are usually “taught” by Teaching Assistants who are just a couple years ahead of you. AS far as “Seeing” the Big-Name Professor, don’t count on it, they’ve got “more important” things to do than yammer at Undergrads.

(I am a BA. Degree “Holder” and child of a University Proff. and have seen the “sad story” far TOO many times. REAL WORLD experience is a FAR more reliable “investment” these days than a BA, or MA. PhD.’s are still worth it in some fields but be CAREFUL. Graduating with a Debt-Load equal to a HOUSE is hardly a good way to Start!)

Right on, Leo Autodidact, right on! Formal education nowadays seems to be a racket. If going to school is to make one smart and get a well paying job, what’s so smart about incurring lots of debt? Unfortunately, young people don’t have the experience to know that many people who are well paid learned to manipulate others and learned to negotiate. I’ve seen all too many bosses who didn’t have the formal education credentials.

lol. debt is the American way!. be a real American and feed the Elites with your debt, for the rest of your life. no matter what your degree is. unless you are part of the Elites, you’ll have debt til you die.

the American way. or be human and enjoy life

Those who’ve served in the military risked their futures. It seems that somebody figured out if young people can be suckered into risking their lives they can also be suckered into risking their financial standings. What was it, a hundred and fifty years ago or so, the U.S. and England had debtors prisons? Some of the best schooling are the “old school” adages such as “never a borrower or lender be.” To use the term “old school” implies that there is a “new school.” Except that most of it isn’t new and too much of it is nearly the opposite of school.

By the way, it was funny when the father essentially told her she must be stupid because both her parents were/are stupid and the mother agreed..(This brings up the deeper subject of how people limit themselves via low self esteem, but I’m not sure I have the genes to discuss it intelligently. Perhaps one of my betters could do it justice. Yes?)
