Homer the Reluctant Soul continues. Our escape was a success, but I still didn't know the slave girl's name. I finally got a chance to ask. She hesitated, as if trying to remember. Then in a soft, somber voice, she said, "Speranza', which in italian means... Homer: Hope...I like it! Woman: I didn't. It felt like cruel irony over the years. Homer: Well, now it's fitting. Settling in for the night, I kept a fire burning to keep the wolves away. I could hear them sniffing around in the woods...then another sound... Homer: ? No...way... Yee-haw! Hope: Wha...? I take it you two already know each other... Homer: *hee-hee* This is my dog, Duncan! It must be an omen!! Hope: So is that...let's go! Next week: Hunting the hunters.

Maybe Duncan will call on the wolf pack for an assist.

Panel three actually looks kinda cozy….All of a sudden I want to sit next to a little campfire and toast marshmallows……..But there’s two feet of snow on the ground, so I may have to wait….
Varnes over 10 years ago
Wait, no…on second thought…Screw the marshmallows….There are only two places hot dogs taste good…Ball Parks, and campfires… Burnt and fresh off a stick and wrapped in cheap white bread makes the best hot dog ever…Might as well break out the old joke ,, Make me one with everything…

@debugger, traditionally, Wiley does something different on Sundays, usually either this continuing saga of “Homer, the Reluctant Soul”, or one of Eddie’s tall tales.
Even during the week, he alternates between following Danae and her family and doing one-strip standalones of ironic and pointed humor.
I think it’s one of the great things about this strip that it’s got these several different things going on, and you never know what you’re going to get day by day – “like a box of chocolates” :)

How sure are you?

Yeah but where’d the sheep go? Maybe that why Duncan looks so happy.

I want to see how Duncan would react to his herding dog….if his herding dog isn’t burned to a crisp by now!

And the drama continues.

Every Sunday, I look forward to Homer…not. Boring, dull, and pointless. Give credit for artwork, but nothing else.

This has got to be one of the better recent adventure strips.
