Of all the ways I can think of that people can be enslaved: jails, prisons, military, internships, part-time jobs, disability, retirement communities, welfare, unemployment, mental hospitals, etc., I think “land of the free” my arse. “Land of the free to make someone else rich and powerful until you are rich and powerful yourself, dead, or no longer useful” I could believe in, but it’s too long.
