Airborne. This single panel Saturday is sensational. Just as silent films were a big part of the Lyric Theater in its prime, Team Tracy serves up a sweet wordless wonder. Mr. Curtis gives the story action with a great chase, as Mr. Staton gives the panel motion with his tremendous art. We are the richer for the first three years that Team Tracy has been at the helm. From Mysta to the Mole, from Measles to Kadaver, from Venus to Méliès, it has been a true pleasure to be along for the ride. A tip o’ the fedora to Team Tracy.
Morning, VistaBill & friends!Man, today’s art is exceptional! (Even the colors! Here we have green amid the snow, too.)Will they make it across, or did Sprocket just want to get far enought into the lake to be too far into the lake?
Of course, once again Tracy lucks out it appears….they crash their own car, after Blackjack rescues him from Kadaver, after Sail sends himself to outer space by mistake, after Sam rescues him from Stiletta but she gets away, after Measles od’s himself, after…..alright there’s others in there, too……but you get my drift……don’t get me wrong, I love the strip, but this streak IS getting to be rather funny
The other comic site shows the windows less dark, with no apparent occupants to be seen in the car. Did they bail out at the last minute? Even if they are in it & go in the water, they can probably still get out before it sinks. Also, we don’t know if the water is 10 feet deep there, or only an inch deep, or has ice thick enough to support a “landing”. Lots of escape possibilities here.
This looks like a scene from “The Duke’s of Hazzard”! I can almost hear “Dixie” coming out of those air horns, and Tracy hollering “Them Nitrate’s, them Nitrate’s!”
I love the one-panel wordless strip, too. It gives a great feeling of space and conveys the sensation of the car hurtling through the air.
Thanks to Joe and Mike on this third anniversary (+/- a day). They are doing great things with the strip.
The lake clearly looks frozen today, which is great to see and there is some snow visible on the ground, too.
@fredville, yes, it seems that they are crashing their own car, but they wouldn’t have done that if Tracy was not relentless in his pursuit. If Tracy was involved any closer than he is now, Wendy Wichel would be accusing him of killing criminals. (Of course, she’s doing that anyway, but she’d have more reason to do it.) Crime doesn’t pay, and I think that Silver and Sprocket know that better than anyone today.
Looks like Sprocket didn’t give it the gun soon enough or that lake was too big as I feared….hope she and Silver know how to hold their breath and swim……
This is the kind of cliffhanger that makes me love this strip. If this was some tv show, this is where the commercial would usually come in. Ditto on the artwork comments. Great stuff. Go Team Tracy Go!
I believe all 3 survive, but run in separate directions. Sprocket will be the easiest to catch, due to her aversion to shoes, and will blame Silver for everything, just as a poster said about yesterday’s strip. Lena will be shot and killed when Silver sends her to attack Tracy and Sam. Silver pulls a gun, and is shot in the arm to disarm him and is arrested.
Sprocket goosed the car through the line of trees, but it looks as though it won’t get to the other shore. A nice take in a single panel; it is, however, unclear whether or not the Nitrates and Lena are still in the car (I think they are, if only because there would seem not to have been enough time to jump once Sprocket hit the nitrous switch; they simply are not seen through the windows). Regardless, what now will Tracy and Sam do?
I think Lena is going to turn out a bit special. A hyena is a pretty grim hunk of feliform. They’ve been known to drive off lionesses in the wild, and they have a pretty bad attitude to people, even those they “know”. There is no such thing as a domesticated hyena.
It is winter the lake is frozen and with the increased speed they will slide to the other side …or will they break through the ice and plunge to the bottom…..or will they become stuck on the ice with no traction and unable to get away???
The pacing of this story, on a weekly basis, has been great! I’ve been excited for Sat & Sun strips for the first time since early Collins & Fletcher. Experimenting with 2 panels leading to a one panel Sat?! Yeah! This team knows comic strips. I always wondered what happened to Flattop Jr’s car…
I would say that there was something askew with anyone (male) who didn’t like the short shorts in those days. But, considering the “transformation” of the present, I’d better not, for fear of offending someone.

Has the ice stayed thick enough to hold the car? Will we switch to a completely different scene on Sunday? Cliffhanger time!
