Ripley's Believe It or Not! I DON'T GET IT!! IKC 234 -- a 1957 painting by French artist Yves Klein showing a blank canvas painted blue -- sold for $2.8m in New York in 2008. The traditional Dutch sport of fierl jeppen involves vaulting over canals on 40-foot-poles. LOUDER! Fans of the Seattle Seahawks triggered an earthquake that registered on the Richter scale at nearby Washington University when celebrating a touchdown in December 2013.

And an awesome game it was (coming from a Seahawks fan) of course I wasn’t at the stadium at the time of the “earthquake.”

I want to know which is more sadder, the 2.8 million dollar all-blue painting or the fact that someone bought said 2.8 million dollar painting.

I’ve gotta believe that Wes Klein even had to be thinking, “I can’t believe people will buy this crap!”

That’s the nearby “University of Washington.” Washington University is in St. Louis, which halfway across the country from Seattle. And, living fewer than 100 miles from Seattle, I remember watching that TD run by Marshawn Lynch on TV (earth-shattering in its’ own right).

Triggered an earthquake?How about COINCIDENCE.

Did they actually trigger an “earthquake”? Or did their screaming and shouting and jumping, just simply REGISTER on an earthquake detector??Two VERY different things. One is the actual movement of tectonic plates, the other is just detecting the vibrations of them jumping up and down.

As for the painting, I have absolutely NO artistic ability, anything I can do is not art. I can paint a canvas one solid color.

He said no such thing. It was a competitor who made that statement ABOUT P.T.

I am totally astonished that someone thought a canvas painted one color was worth $2.8 million.
corpcasselbury is right.

MicroGuy’s got it right – the UoW set up seismic sensors around inside the stadium, and measured the ‘vibes’ – There was a short-lived ‘school’ of painting called ‘Colorism’ in the late 60’s early b70’s – several ‘artists’ tried to make a go of it. If asked ‘what does it mean?’, they always answered with the old cop-out, ‘What does it mean to you?’ It didn’t last long … this is first I’ve ever heard that any of that ‘work’ sold for anything more than the cost of the canvas and paint …

From Wiki
Although Klein had worked with blue extensively in his earlier career, it was not until 1958 that he used it as the central component of a piece (the color effectively becoming the art). Klein embarked on a series of monochromatic works using IKB as the central theme. These included performance art where Klein painted models’ naked bodies and had them walk, roll and sprawl upon blank canvases as well as more conventional single-color canvases.

Nah. The buyer knew what he was doing: getting attention.

I seriously doubt they triggered an earthquake.
Also, P.T. Barnum did not say that.

It’s good to hear about the Dutch doing something athletic with their numerous canals besides skating to get from here to there, or Olympic speed skating.
