Senior Shuffle Bus….snark! An elderly relative of us complained that everyone was giving her the finger and yelling at her, she was going the speed limit. On US Highway 5! (probably in the fast lane)
I am close to someone who, at 96, is legally blind even with glasses, deaf even with hearing aids, and upset that no one… family, friends, doctor, etc….. will let her drive any more.
She told me she thinks she’s just as safe behind the wheel as sitting on her couch, because it’s just the same activity (???)… and about two years ago got a ticket for 45 mph in a 25 mph residential zone.
I also have a very good friend who is only 65, and drives 45 on the freeway (speed limit 65, average speed probably 70) “to be safe.”
She insists that if people don’t like it they can go around her.
Both are still somewhat miffed at me because in the last few years I’ve refused to let either drive me anywhere.
What do you do when someone you care about is a menace on the road and can’t tell… and won’t believe it?
I only hope that when the day comes that I shouldn’t drive any more, someone will tell me…and I’ll listen.
What a mean lady. Love the dogs look 2old and oh ow x_tech I am a cyclist. However I am lucky so far everyone seems to share the road. However everyone may be avoiding my fat but shrinking spandex covered behind.
I don’t mind driving behind someone like Ma (going WAY too slow) for a short time, but I would definitely pass her the first chance possible (as I’m sure the bus will).
Yes, she would not have to travel at the slow rate of that senior bus. She can drive however she chooses – RIGHT!So she CHOOSES to go slow and drive others crazy. I agree that she probably just “borrowed” Burl’s keys for the day.
My neighbor across the road is 96, is just a touch blind, deaf, etc. yet still drove up until a year ago. That’s when his car got taken away and a word was dropped in the ear of the BMV driver’s test officer. Now, no license, no keys(he would sneak out of the house and drive to see his other WW2 buddies in a town 35 miles away) and always seemed to have extra keys stashed around the house – every time his kids would confiscate them he always seemed to miraculously produce another set!!! The car is now parked at his daughter’s house 3 miles away—makes it hard to get to now!

Today’s strip has touched a very common and very sensitive nerve. It’s not Ma or “that other old person”, it’s us!

If Ma drives why does Burl take her so many places? I think she found the keys and is on the loose.

65?? On a quaint ‘lil two-way street?? Not to worry, then, this is obviously someone’s dream.
