The critically endangered Kakapo of New Zealand is the only parrot that can't fly; it climbs trees instead, can live for 90 years, and has a strong musky odor that attracts predators. There are less than 150 left in the wild! I'll take a sundae please! USA In Korea, a sundae is not ice cream but cow or pig intestines stuffed with noodles and blood. Yuk! In 1937, Hershey made a chocolate bar for U.S. Army rations that withstood temperatures of 120F and tasted only a little better than a boiled potato, so that soldiers saved it for emergencies.

New Zealand is also home to the Kea, the only parrot that’s also a bird of prey

Save the kakpos! I wonder that’s the Korean word for that ice cream dish.

The D Ration, or D Bar, was nicknamed “Hitler’s Secret Weapon” by American troops, who hated the things passionately. They were so hard that breaking off a piece, let alone chewing it, was a herculean task. Even the legendary hardtack had nothing on a D Ration in terms of sheer iron hardness.

I would thinking about carving, or shaping, the bar into a knife if it was that hard. Yes I was in the forces and went through a number of POW training programs.

So, if I go to Korea, what do I ask for if I want the ice creme with hot fudge?

And then there were the MREs(Meals rejected by Ethiopians!)What’s interesting is opening a ration and reading the date and realize it’s older than you!

I wonder how a kakapo can live for 90 years if it has a smell that attracts predators and can’t fly?

I took a picture of a kakapo last year. Alas, it was a cheap phone with cruddy resolution.

There’s another parrot down there, the Kea, that attacks and eats SHEEP!Basically grabs on to their wool at night, then starts pecking at their sides/back, where the fat is, to eat it. The sheep don’t do too well after that.(I thought this one may have been it, that’s what made me think of it, I had to double check)

Thanks for the tip! I was so close to asking for whipped cream, nuts, and a cherry on my blood & noodle sausage!

can’t they get the kakapos to use deodorant?

Tropical chocolate disc, included in C rations, weren’t much better. We thought they could be used for hockey pucks. They were round because they came in cans. The original MREs were terrible(worse than C rations). The newer ones aren’t too bad. BTW in 1980 we were still eating Cs that were canned in the ’40s.

According to Douglas Adams, a scared Kakapo will forget it can’t fly, crashing to the ground in a heap.
