Is Tracy going to take a swim?

I dunno, Tracy looks all wrong in panel 2. No ankle for example, and his right arm is just wrong. He looks like he is about to kick an extra point. The man Tracy is talking to in the last panel looks shocked. Maybe he’s never seen such a strangely drawn man. Or he thinks Tracy wants to go for a late night swim.

fishbulb his nose is unusually large, too.

There are soooooo many things wrong with the anatomy (Tracy’s) in panel 2.

His bow tie has shrunk in panel 3.

He runs swiftly through the night Holding the violin o’ so tight Looking for a swimming pool He won’t be played for a fool His brilliant deduction saves the day He certainly has earned his pay Not stopping to warn the guests They were nothing more than pests His lanky form a thing of grace The motion lines show his pace Water he knows will do the trick Proving he is really thick Plastic explosive when it’s wet Does not alleviate the threat Pity the pool is on the roof He’ll drown the guests with his goof Can the bomb explode without high c Seems we will have to wait and see

Margueritem, that’s obviously a self-portrait! You’ll be famous someday! Sidenote: wouldn’t Macy look like the Village Idiot IF the Strad was just a heavier version that was made back then? A prototype?

Are you kidding me? I mean really, C’mon. This is just dumb now.

Due to the fact that water can’t be compressed, it is a very efficient medium for transferring explosive energy. This is why in naval warfare it’s often enough to have a bomb explode next to a ship, as opposed to having it actually impact the vessel. So a bomb exploding in a swimming pool could very well cause major structural damage and loss of life.

So, explain it to me, Detective Tracy – why did you throw a $10,000,000 violin into a swimming pool?

Well, it seemed heavier than it should be … and I had a hunch it might have a bomb in it….

And how did you go about investigating your hunch? Did you, for instance, look inside and see what was in there?

Did you hold it to your ear and listen for ticking?

Did you call the Bomb Squad and ask them to investigate it?

No, sir.

You just threw in the swimming pool. Because you had a hunch.

Agree with everyone. Besides, the fact that a violin is heavy could mean a lot of things; and in any real-world situation like this the procedure is to leave the thing alone, evacuate the area and call in the bomb squad.

I wish they would either retire or revive this strip. It’s a zombie right now.

My knowledge of bomb disposal is also rooted in old movies, so I too would seek out water. However, unless the violin is a radio transmitter set to summon a herd of bomb-laden elephants, I’d probably head to the kitchen first.

Once in a while Doty make a relevant point on surfacing from HIS thought pool, after pondering over presentation styles for his anecdotal experiences.

How, is the Violin going to hit the “High C” if it’s at the bottom of the pool ? As “Low Note” explained (2-07-10)

And then, won’t if float around unplayed for a while ? Certainly, by dint of structure, it won’t sink like a rock.

If it all goes “FLOOOooM” in the pool eventually, what would have set it off ?

Has Dick Locher or his little ghosting “helpers” thought this through carefully ?

I hope the Embassy pool is heated. It’s cold in Naperville this time of the year.

Hey Doty, I appreciate your service! The same goes for Barticle35 and any other veterans here. Putting on that uniform, especially during a time of war, is one heck of a contribution.

OK, I have to ask: If the violin is set to explode if it “hears” high C, will it also explode if it’s set on the high seas?

It probably will float unless Tracy forces it under. Even heavy with a bomb, it will float at the level where the water it displaces equals the weight of the violin with bomb.

And your Physics seems to be more likely of 1970’s vintage and possibly proof that old knowledge is superceeded by new laws in these matters

At least some people still remember the old UPA cartoon series from the early 1960’s. Nobody seems to recall that there was another series of animated DT cartoons done by Filmation in the 70’s. Perhaps it’s because the second series had such poorly-conceived plots, no one could tell just what the heck was going on. I have several of the Filmation episodes, and trust me, they’re all incomprehensible. The only thing Filmation did right was to draw the characters properly (including Sam, Junior, Pat Patton et al).
