Granddad: You find some information on your symptoms on that web site you was looking at? Huey: No, but I don't really think it matters anymore... Granddad: Why not? Huey: Cause the MTBE in our gasoline's gonna end life as we know it in the U.S. in about six months. Read it on werealldoomed.com Granddad: It's a shame you can't stay home from school and spread joy to your granddaddy more often. Huey: (sigh) I'll never know how bad "Episode 2" was gonna be.

MTBE is why gas in California is almost always cheapest at AMPM. The patent on that stuff goes back to AtlanticRichfield & everyone else has to use it & pay them royalties. It’s not as hard to breathe in LA as it was in the ’70s.

Today’s internet and the trolls would probably give him a stroke. Back then, most ppl were still using flip phones that could barely text so there weren’t as many online yet. Most phones didn’t have access.

What does MTBE do to humans?
Respiratory irritation, dizziness, and disorientation have been reported by some motorists and occupationally exposed workers. Acute (short- term) exposure of humans to
methyl tert-butyl ether
also has occurred during its use as a medical treatment to dissolve cholesterol gallstones…
so there you go…

MTBE is not banned in North Carolina, but one website I found listed zero use up to 2001. No mention of South Carolina. I forgot which state they moved to.
