As a variation on this theme: every couple weeks during the summer, the town I live in holds a street festival of one sort or another in the downtown. When they block off the street for the festival, they use big metal barricades… which they put right on top of the metal-detecting coils that control the stoplights. And the lights respond by giving an extra-long green to the street that’s closed…
Prompts one to say, “What were they thinking?”
Or to punctuate it a bit differently, “What? Were they thinking?”
Fairport, that seems to be the case pretty much everywhere these days. I drive about 20 miles on my way to work and home on I-476 (aka the Blue Route) and I stay in the right lane and do about 55-60 mph (the speed limit is 55) and I rarely pass anyone. However, I do get to work in a good mood, not stressed out, and when I get home, I don’t feel the need to have a drink to calm my nerves. Road rage never comes close to describing my temperment on my commute. I can’t say the same about many of the drivers I watch on my way though. It’s a far cry from the way I used to be when I worked as a field service tech. I used to drive on average, about 1000 miles a week and when I’d stop, I’d find my hands clenched tightly on the steering wheel so much that my shoulders hurt. I guess perspective is a wonderful thing to have.

If the private sector behaves like this, it is usually due to a government regulation. Business can only act stupidly until the money runs out. Government can act stupidly until we vote them out!
This fits almost perfectly with today’s news. Small businesses won’t create new jobs because they don’t know what expenses they’re gonna get hit with. But in this case the a guy with two gigantic “do not cross” signs - cap-and-trade and the Rube Goldberg Healthcare Act - hasn’t put the signs in the guy’s path but is threatening to.

No, sablebrush5, more like these are the people who want to take over our healthcare system, and we elected them.

The government is the tool of large corporations. It does what they want, every time. Private industry in effect runs the government…
