My favorite suggestion was to keep the name, but make the mascot a red potato.(Snyder recently suggested he’d change the name – if DC built him a new stadium. They should change the name to the Snyders, and have a weasel as the mascot.)

The Twig and Berries is a great pick for a bar name. I’m not about to razz it. Looks like the kind of place that will pick you up when you’re feeling blue.

Two definations, which one do you think is more representational of this comic strip.

Non sequitur (literary device), an irrelevant, often humorous comment to a preceding topic or statement

Non sequitur (logic), a logical fallacy where a stated conclusion is not supported by its premise.

I think it is the first but I will let Wiley be the judge on this one.

You have free speech rights, you don’t have a right to go through life unoffended by other’s free speech rights..It’s not “free speech rights” we’re offended by. It’s the racism, insensitivity, willful ignorance and general arseholery.

“Politically Correct” needs to be banned. Maybe someone could come up with a strip about how stupid all this is… Like Mallard Fillmore :-)

You beat me to it. I lived in South Bend for many years, and when I read this strip, all I could picture were the garage doors painted with the leprechaun logo. Odd thing to recall. I wasn’t a fan.

“Notre Dame is already under attack by the Irish for their leprechaun logo.”-————————————————————

Seriously? I hadn’t heard anything about that. Are they really “under attack” or is it just some small group seeking attention by playing the victim role? I’d think they’d be more upset with the teams’ name, The Fighting Irish, than with the mascot. Are you sure you’re not getting the two mixed up?

Seriously, there’s a good real-world name out there — the Washington Senators. So they were a baseball team; other cities have had teams in different sports with the same name. (New York Giants, for example.) And unlike Redskins, of either the Native American or spud variety, there actually ARE Senators in D.C., and comparing the performance of the politicians and the football team would make for endless sports-talk jokes.

Ted Nugent has been banned from many Native American casinos because of openly racist statements…When confronted and asked if ol’ Teddy had free speech rights, a tribal leader said that Indians have been victims of racism for hundreds of years. He has the right to say anything he wants. He doesn’t have the right to be a racist on our reservation…..Interesting way to think about it…..Native American logic is very interesting…

Keep the name, but make it a Edgar Rice Burroughs Barsoom reference. Dress the cheerleaders like Dejah Thoris.
