Well, at least we’re getting some insight into Shannon’s mind. They can build on that. Maybe she’ll take up Equestrian sports or something. It could also teach her some responsibility (i.e. how to take care of a pony).

I have never met a little California girl who didn’t want her own pony. It is cheaper to rent the pony though. One year a pony was rented for my granddaughter’s birthday party. It was brought into the subdivision where the Fair Oaks airport used to be, and all the party goers got to ride it. I just bought her some riding clothes that was on her Amazon wish list. She is getting interested in the sport of riding rather than being a cowgirl, I guess, but cowgirl boots are on her wish list, too. ~I don’t think anyone reported a pony being in the subdivision to the homeowners association. If they did they would probably have been laughed at. ~Luann would probably love a brand new Mustang, or better still, a 1965 Corvette Stingray all restored.

There’s the classic out— the most desired present for teens to receive is a gift card.*Then there’s my way— buy them something I liked at their age at a store in their area, so they get a story along with an item to be exchanged.

My only problem with “gift cards” is that, yes, you get what you want; but there’s no surprise involved, no “my ____ got this for me”, no cherished memory attached.Having said that; one of the last gifts my Mother got me for Christmas 2000 (the day she died) was a JC Penny’s card (she was a long-time loyal customer). By the time I felt like redeeming it, fees had eaten up it’s entire “value”, in addition to any good feeling that might have attached itself to this last gift.I haven’t stepped inside a Pennys since.

A long time ago, on the streets of Baltimore, produce vendors (called “Arab-ers”) would sell their goods up and down the streets. When I was a kid there, one was kind enough to let me ride on his pony for a few blocks (ah, good times, good times!). And, of course, the pony was kind enough to let me – I guess that’s why I didn’t bother too much asking for one growing up. After that dream was fulfilled, well, that dream to hit one off of Jim “Catfish” Hunter into the upper decks and/or also that dream to have “the Cars/Poco/Firefall/Genesis” open up for me (sigh)…. could just never measure up….

Uh, they did play. They did their part. They hid . The object for them was to “hide”. Shannon was designated as the “seek”. They hid. They were so great at it, it bought them some QT, since Shannon wasn’t able to find them. They “killed two birds with one stone”…..

“. Here they do the opposite, but neither is technically playing, "^Again, they hid . As I previously stated, they didn’t leave the house, they didn’t have her hide and “lock herself” somewhere. They played . They made sure it was them to be the “hider/s”. – Usually, in “hide and seek”, the seeker has to find you. You don’t call out: “Are you in here?” (Or at least you know you won’t get an answer). The “hider/s” would be “defeating the purpose” to “give away their location” on purpose. The seeker tries to get them to reveal themselves. They considered themselves as “outsmarting her” in finding a place to hide as good as they thought it was (which wasn’t as good for them on their end, as was shown in the subsequent strips). But again, they were playing. Either way (technical or non-technical)….

“When you hide, you have to hide in a place where someone can actually find you…”^I… don’t remember the rule that says that . Except if it was a “Seeker” who made that rule. I’ll have to check the “Official Manual” made by Parkour Brothers (twins whose last name is the same as that "roof-jumping craze)…

“Is that how you would play hide and seek with small children? Go to your room and lock the door? Honestly?”^Honestly, that all gets sorted out when you play. For instance, “such and such is the base” for “it’s” (what we called tag). "We’d also say what could and couldn’t be the base, and whatever else. We did the same for “Hide and Seek”. – I came from a time when people could go about the neighborhood, but the rule was “make sure you’re home by dark” . For some, the rule was that, plus the periodic “check in” and “When I call, you better come!”. These days, it’s not so “kosher” in some places to do that, but for some, it is still possible. – So hiding in a house would seem like a “walk in the park”. The only rules would be don’t go “Punky Brewster” and hide in an abandoned refrigerator, don’t go out of the house, and anything “common sense”. And that’s what Greg was basing it on. – As far as not being able to find them, that’s the game . Somebody has to win, and somebody has to lose. Shannon wasn’t “upset”. After all, she did go to rescue B&T. She could’ve “got them back”…..

Shannon is six. She is not a “four year old”. Six year olds are pretty ‘wily and wary". They played the game with a precocious, smart, inventive, creative child of six. I don’t think that Mr. Evans would have depicted this if it were a four year old, that hadn’t even been to pre school . It seemed appropriate (comic strip wise), given her age. However, I cannot dictate how others in real life would do it. Some would, some wouldn’t. But the whole point from all this is what B&T were doing. That was the core of this discussion. They were playing along, and playing another “game” at the same time…..

“That wasn’t even the same day.”^Well, that wasn’t what I was saying. The point I posted it is to show that it’s Shannon’s old MO . It’s an example of her formerly demanding nature, and ability to “manipulate and control”, which is why Toni called her a “mini Eiffel”… – The example showed that Luann got bothered, because Shannon didn’t respect the boundaries (nor desires) of others….

“I’m pretty sure the idea was that Luann is also a selfish little snit, and that’s the joke, Luann doesn’t realize it.”^Look again. Shannon took the bowl, switching it for the black bowl that she had while Luann was talking. That was the “gag” in that strip…Luann not noticing as she did it, and was “casual” about the whole thing when Luann lectured her…
