When Victor went off to college, it was still called the Republic of Dahomey.

Reminds me of a little country that had a pavilion in the 1939-40 World’s Fair in NY. The staff had no place to go back to, as their home had been invaded by Germany. The 80s documentary “The World of Tomorrow” seemed to indicate that their home wasn’t even a country any more.

As far as I know Lake Okanagan (home of Ogopogo) has not yet claimed independence from Canada.

Back when this strip was first printed – a lot of countries weren’t around. And a lot are no longer.I have maps that still show the country Czechoslovakia.
