“Fine but you’re an actor, aren’t you?”He is, now! This director will not take “no” for an answer with someone who looks perfect for the role. I suppose if he’s already pretending to be something he’s not, it’s not that much farther to go.
Who are all these new people? Where O where is Dick Tracy? What in heaven’s name is going on?
This strip was so much more fun and so much easier to enjoy during the crossover with Little Orphan Annie!
All you had to do was noise-cancel the nay-sayers, no-goodniks, moaners, groaners, nitty nit-pickers and those more interested in seeing their Comments in print than actually contributing to readers’ knowledge and enjoyment of the story, the characters and the absolutely stunning art. Joe and Mike: respect.
Before you-all jump down my throat for being an ignorant British dweeb — for that seems to me to be the case — may I guess that this parade of apparently unconnected walk-on walk-off characters and sizzling hot babes is a sort of Shakespearian prologue, introducing or re-introducing us to the Dramatis Personae of the very slow-starting story arc itself? When do we get to the fun part? Great cunning versus great policing? The climax, of course… thrills, spills and suddenly, it’s clobbering time! Is a soft-start like this customary in Dick Tracey, or something new Joe and Mike are trying on to see how it fits?
Like many directors, Mr. Moore is being very assertive today, and poor Vitamin is absolutely appalled. Meanwhile, the recently-altered visage of Gruesome has all by itself “earned” him a major rôle in this production of Arsenic and Old Lace. I guess Gruesome missed noticing Mel O. Dee sitting out there in the house watching this preliminary casting call/blocking/read-through. Or, just maybe, he doesn’t know Dee by sight….
Thank you for your kind comments, Gweedo. The LOA crossover just blew me away, period. I felt very secure in who was who, what was happening and couldn’t wait to view the next day’s strip. The Comments, with the exceptions I mentioned, enhanced the strip massively with their humour, insights, history, links and explanations.
I regret that I am not familiar with the “original stories” to which you refer. Are you suggesting that there are only a limited number of basic D.T. story arcs and that therefore, after 80 years or so, every ‘new’ story is perforce an ‘old’ story in new pyjamas?
About the current worldwide ‘P.C.’ pandemic I cannot agree more. Every day what you can and can’t say, do or think grows exponentially. Please don’t get me started, it makes my blood boil!
So far we don’t know of any crime having been committed. I think there has to be a crime before all the action starts or Tracy gets involved. This is all preliminary leading up to the main story.
By the way, Melody was the name of Gruesome’s henchman in the original movie. In the movie, Melody was a bar room piano player. Perhaps he is the piano player for the Patterson Playhouse.
You might want to type in another place then copy and paste it.
Yeah, it might be better. The problem is my new laptop computer has keys in slightly different places than the old one that I’m used to and there is a “back” and “next” key right beside the arrow keys, so I ended up on a different page instead of moving the cursor one character.

Mr. Flintheart does not look too thrilled. Wonder why?

So am I the only only one that caught that the director referred to Vitamin by his nickname but Grusome referred to him as Mr. Flintheart?

Morning, Tracyville!I think Flintheart is upset because he wanted the part of Jonathan.

No he looks like Boris Karloff, and so does Abe Vigoda. Vitamin a “nickname”. Hmm, never heard the real first name then in the last 60+ years.

No, that’s the right picture. That’s the play they are doing. I’m still voting for Vitamin Flintheart for the role of Teddy. We will see.
