No only is this 6-year-old handy with big words, he’s handy with big numbers! AND we get further insight into why the kid is the way he is. The apple doesn’t fall far…

I’m not sure this is entirely correct. It seems in the whole the dad does spend appropriate time with him. But it’s also true that kids have to learn they can’t always interrupt someone doing something else and simply assume they’ll drop whatever they’re doing for them. While parents DO need to spend time with their kids, kids also need to know they’re not the center of the universe. Balance is the word. At any rate, that doesn’t seem to be the point of this particular strip today. Rather, it shows Calvin being outsmarted – something which is also healthy for him to experience.

In panel 3, Calvin bears a resemblance to Scotland’s “Oor Wullie.” (Look it up…)

Whenever someone asks me to think of a number from one to ten, I always think of pi. No one ever guesses it.

“Go show mom.” That’s cold, dad, foisting him off on mom like that.

Like Cat’s in the Cradle by Harry Chapin, later by Ugly Kid Joe.

Would YOU want to spend time with a kid named “Ugly Kid Joe?”

Calvin’s father is so cool. He doesn’t surprise on his son’s supernatural powers.

It’s interesting that a comic from almost 30 years ago still elicits comments as if it was current.

Calvin’s parents should spend more time with him, it sounds like.

Calvin, you’re psychic – you put that number right into dad’s head by mind power alone. .THAT will give Calvin a swelled head, for sure. 8^)
