    District 11 almost never closed, even if every district around them did.

    Due to the inclement weather today’s school lessons will be administered online. All students will turn on their computers and go to their designated web page.

    How do you make reading a long list of numbers interesting? Many years ago, there was a talk radio host in Philadelphia who would sing the school closings. That’s entertainment, unless he didn’t sing your number.

    Spent a winter in Great Lakes Naval Training Station. Two foot blizzard, shut down the city of Chicago. Guys from Minnesota were saying “Two feet? Hell, where I’m from two feet is a school day.”

    I wonder if Marigold can pick up school cancellation reports with her horn.

    Kids, or more likely their helicopter parents are such wimps today-schools closed because there was a 1/2 inch of snow. School delayed for the entire district due to fog at the southern end-twenty miles away. Back in the day we were lucky if we had 2-3 snow days in a year. Now they schedule 6-7 and still have to add days at the end of the year to make up the required 180 days. What really ices the cake is that the first day school reopens the parents of all the kids who walk are screaming that the sidewalks haven’t been shoveled and it is unsafe for the kids to walk to school. Why couldn’t they get little Johnny and Suzy out the day before with a shovel? Oops sorry, they spent the day at the mall-never too bad to go into town for a good time on snow days. (Guess I shouldn’t have had that second bowl of Grinch flakes this morning).

    Speaking of radio-Phoebe would have died if she had to listen to the radio like we did-WOWO was 50.000 watt farm radio and they announced school closing for about 40 counties in three states-fortunately we lived in Allen County so we found out earlier. Pity the poor kids in Van Wert County Ohio, especially if their schools didn’t close.

    @khatkhattu,

    I was an O in a fairly top heavy alphabet… and one of the very last districts to ever close. I felt that pain! On the other hand, the joy of success was wonderful :)
