Oh, how this hits home! I remember Mom and Grandma whispering to each other on Christmas morning “I gave it to you to hide”…“no, you hid it in your closet”. That was the closet otherwise known as Death Valley in Mom’s bedroom!!
Wonderful! Been the and done that. I find the best place to hide things is in my ironing basket. Of course, half the time the kids have outgrown whatever it was.
My mom once bought me a cute alarm clock when I was in high school and to this day (20 years later) she still can’t find it. She said she had wrapped it and put it in one of the closets. Maybe one day she’ll come across it.
Thankfully, my husband doesn’t snoop, so I can hide presents where I’ll stumble across them often enough to remember that they’re there. But I’ve got to get better about putting post-it notes on the gifts that I buy way in advance, so I can remember which person it goes to.

Opal must have stashed it in that same ‘safe place’ that I use. When we moved into this house years ago I put odd stuff in a box to make sure it would make the move. I’m still looking for some of it.
My nephew got a small safe this Christmas..He said it was just like the one he had to break into because he lost the key to it..He wondered where was a good place to put the 2nd key where he could find it…I told him….put it inside the safe(chuckle)
One summer while looking for something in our basement, I came across a croquet set. When I inquired about it with my mom, she cracked up laughing. It was supposed to have been under the Christmas tree.
