Janis: We both agreed a small tree made sense, this year!
Arlo: It seemed like a good idea at the time...
Arlo: But you know what it is! It's a slippery slope!
Arlo: It's a slippery slope that leads to no tree at all!
Arlo: Can I get a big amen?!

Is Arlo planning a trip for next Christmas?Maybe to Notree Atoll?

Not sure about No-Tree, but the ones I was on out in the Marshall Islands had trees (coconut palms). They were just very lacking in altitude above sea level.

Our little 24" table-top tree has served us well for 18 Christmases now. It isn’t the size it is the symbolism.

God says NO to Christmas trees…
Jeremiah 10:2 Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

My grandparents had a ceramic tabletop tree at some point. I figured it was an age-related thing. Lighten up, Arlo.

My big complaint is that tree farms trim their trees into perfect upside down ice cream cones, so they don’t look like trees, and are harder to decorate.

Buy Janis a lot of gifts, wrap them and put them in the middle of the floor with the little tree on top of them. Next day, you’ll have a new 8’ tree in it’s place with all the gifts under it.

So having different opinions negates the right to free speech? Do like I do, smile, move on and ignore them.

Some friends of mine did the small tree thing. They ended up with a bunch of them all over the house.

“they have no right to proselytize to the rest of us”..You who try to convince others of your beliefs believe others should not be allowed to try to convince others of their beliefs.??Interesting.

“By name you mean JHVH? Or Jehovah? God isn’t a name it translates as “to call the deity.”.As best I recall, it means “I AM.”

@AlbertaNerd“one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.”.Obviously writing about graven images and idols which are forbidden as substitutes and distractions from the real deal. Sure many churches are filled with them, but that’s between them and the Lord.

Don’t worry about it, Arlo. After my wife and I downsized our dwelling about ten years ago, we put up a tree for maybe the first two years. Then we went to an artificial tree. Then, for perhaps the next five or six years, we put up no tree. This year we put up a tabletop tree. Just live with it, man.

The word “God” does not mean “to invoke a deity”.
Etymology and Usage: Main article: God (word)_
“The English word [God} itself is derived from the Proto-Germanic * ǥuđan. The reconstructed Proto-Indo-European form * ǵhu-tó-m was likely based on the root ǵhau(ə)-, which meant either “to call” or “to invoke”."
The word God is (likely) derived from the word ǵhau(ə). That does not make the word “God” mean the exact same thing as the word it is derived from. Etymology tells us where the word likely comes from. The dictionary tells us what the word actually means. noun1 [ without article ] (in Christianity and other monotheistic religions) the creator and ruler of the universe and source of all moral authority; the supreme being.

@Night-Gaunt49“Till they all agree on one version is what I meant. I don’t think I was that obscure in how I wrote it.”.Not obscure, just explicitly restrictive of speech.“If everyone who claims to be a Christian does not agree with everyone else who claims to be a Christian, then ALL must be silent." was the proposed concept.

“No I don’t try to convince anyone of anything. Just letting them know there are other viewpoints. Not the same at all. Get it?”??You make statements regarding what you believe but do not intend anyone to believe you??And you expect me to believe that?Or you expect me to believe that you don’t expect anyone to believe that???
David Huie Green LoveJoyAndPeace almost 10 years ago
" “God” is invoked but it means “to invoke a deity.” ".So you believe it is a verb?Or you expect me to believe that it is a verb?Or you expect everyone to believe that you believe that nobody will believe that you expect someone to believe that….
