JJ: You know, Mike, I always envied mom for running away with you guys. Next to hers, my life has been so dull. Mike: Well, maybe, but don't forget, J.J., she was nearly 40 at the time. JJ: I know, but nothing ever happens to me. I"m already a sophomore and I haven't even begun to live yet. So far, the highlight of my life has been the week I spent in Aspen with my lover, when he got stoned and burned down his boss's house. I guess that's pretty tame stuff to you, huh? Mike: Uh... well, sure, but remember, I'm a senior.

That’s nothing! When Mike was a junior, they got his order wrong at the New Haven Burger King.

I never read this comic back when this was new; papers near me didn’t carry it. This is kind of painful to watch, actually…

A freshman in ’72 when the strip started, and a senior in ’80. Slow learner.

I’m not being picky, but curiosity has gotten to me.
Does anyone know what that gray thing on the table to the right of the TV is? A VHS/Beta player, maybe??

So, when did JJ realize that Mike was a rebel without a pause? Born to be mild? .Surely before she married him?

I find these a lot of fun since Mike and I were both Freshman at the same time, starting college in 1970 (and I was following the strip fairly closely then too). However I was finished with undergraduate and graduate school by 1976, so Mike has been “cartoon aging” all along. I’m 62 now and a new grandfather, but I get the feeling that I passed up Mike and friends in age some time ago.

@WF11They remained eternal students until the hiatus in 83/84, came back with a bit of subsequent history like the marriage of Mike and JJ, and from then on have aged roughly in real time. That puts Mike in his mid-fifties, which looks about right. And congratulations!
