Jim Cramer often makes that point about putting away money for the kids’ college as opposed to funding retirement plans. He advises to focus on building assets in retirement accounts for just that reason. There are more alternative sources of funds for college.

He’s gonna end up a very well educated hamburger flipper.

A dollar won’t buy as much now as a penny did when that saying was invented.

I recall a Wizard of Id from many years ago:

Thoughts are not a very good deal for the one giving them. Its only a penny for your thoughts, yet you give your 2 cents worth. So in total, you lose a penny by giving your thoughts.
