The Buckets by Greg Cravens for April 02, 2015
Transcript:
Ok, Mr. Bucket. Tests are all back. Elevated white cell count. Swollen appendix. You can guess what happens now. We're going to get an IV in your arm, assign you a room and schedule your surgery for first thing in the morning. Do you have any questions or concerns? Is it weird that, after all this time and trouble, I'm actually relieved it's not just really bad gas?

oh there are ways of attacking that severe gas. But you wouldn’t like those ways…. You much better off – let the Docs poke some more and snip away.and don’t you get happy drugs?

Oh, this series is SO making me look forward to MY planned surgery. Just five more weeks, and I get to have all the fun of a c-section (my third one) . . . at 7:30 in the morning. Wheee.

Well, he won’t be able to use his appendix as an excuse to avoid shopping anymore.

I went to the hospital 2 months ago with pneumonia and came home with a pacemaker in my chest!

When the Restless Leg Syndrome medications stopped working, they put a pacemaker in my foot.

Had two teeth out in October, and one a week ago.The one a week ago was “root canal, or pulled” … I chose pulled, as it’s cheaper. LoLIt hurt like a sonovabitch however.

Excuse me, but if the appendix is swollen and the white blood cell count is up, they don’t make you wait until the next morning for surgery. It has to come out now, before it bursts.

We finally get a diagnosis. It seems like he’s been in the ER for days.:-)

We are thinking of you, Larry.
Your delightful kids will soon be visiting you in hospital when you’ve had the surgery.

I completely understand, Larry! No one likes making a trip to the ER to find out that it is “nothing”. I have a condition that was extremely difficult to diagnose, and I remember the difficulty I had with a few doctors convincing them that there was something seriously wrong. (After I finally got diagnosed, I was told it would have been fatal if not diagnosed & treated in time. Glad I wasn’t in denial.)

I had a strangulated hernia that required 2 hernia repairs, a bowel recontruction, 2 months unconscous with several complications while I was out of it (at least twice the doctors told my friends and family that they didn’t expect me to survive). Ever since I’ve had bowel obstructions about 2 or 3 times a year. I’ve learned to recoginize the symptoms and I’ve only had a false alarm once going to the hospital, every other time I’ve been admitted and spent about 5 to 7 days for things to clear up.

Yikes! Thanks, everyone, for sharing the frankly horrific tales of suffering and foot pacemakers. I feel like I’m well prepared to face my future now! And I don’t dispute what ya say, sfreader1, but the facts as I got ‘em in the hospital was that my white count was up, and the CT scan showed a swollen appendix. I’d started having symptoms roughly 9 hours earlier, and as it was very late in the day and typically you have 36 to 48 hours before appendices go totally blooey, they scheduled me for eight hours later- first thing in the morning- when the chirpy morning surgeons had to deal with me.
