When I lived there back in the 60’s it was so much fun to go downtown Honolulu and “tourist watch”. Never saw this but some really loud shirts on the men and “mumu’s” on the ladies. ((not a lot to do when you are Island bound, lol))
Men over 50 should not go around topless – it excites babies and confuses small children. (I have heard that attributed to W.C. Fields, but have never found that attribution made definitively.)
The nice thing about this story line even though it is a repeat is that it’s in color. The first time around was black and white I just wish they would have done the whole story and not just a few days from it.
Usually the hula “lessons” come at the luaus, and the guy they pick is quite drunk and doesn’t realize that he is becoming the bu*t of a joke. So Earl must have really tied one on to still be wearing the skirt and coconut shells.
First, I thought of the Skipper in the last episode of Gilligan’s Island, in which he tried to change his appearance to that of a woman, so he could fool King Kaliwani into thinking he was a “white goddess”. But Earl here doesn’t wear any sort of wig; the Skipper did. He wore a grass skirt, too. All of the Castaways wore grass skirts in the first episode of the second season, titled “Gilligan’s Mother-in-Law,” for the party celebrating Gilligan’s upcoming wedding to the native girl. The male Castaways kept all their shirts on
We honeymooned in Hawaii, planning on going there again in a couple of years for our 30th anniversary. It will be nice to be able to spend some money next time. On our honeymoon we stayed at an inexpensive (not cheap) mmotel, made our own bologna sandwiches for lunch, and dinner most nights. Next time we may take a picnic lunch, but overall leaving the bologna in stores refrigerators, where it belongs.

This strip originally ran on June 16, 2007. I notice that they’ve skipped over a lot of strips in this series.

This reminds me of the cartoon where Sylvester’s son put a bag over his head because his dad couldn’t catch a mouse.

I wonder if Opal has another bag under that one.

So I guess nobody has ever seen “South Pacific” or heard the song “There is nothing like a dame”. Oh well. ;-)

I don’t blame her, but then on the other hand, what are the odds of them running into anyone they know?

JP Steve: That was the number with the cross-dressing. Nothin’ like a dame had no females in the production number.
