You’ll notice from Luann’s reaction, she caught the inference just fine.

When I was in high school, I knew a girl who would be a dead ringer for Luann if she were cartoonized. I actually thought she was really hot.

I’m sorry folks – Luann IS hot!

Did she get that art class guy’s phone number? HE thought Luann was hot!

She has to “protect” her boyfriend from other women? That is very insulting to Quill. This is such an outdated stereotype.

Luann shouldn’t be reassured by that; she’s not a particularly nice person.

To be fair to Bernice, she did not say that Luanne isn’t hot (at least in Quill’s eyes), only that hotness isn’t the determining factor.

Did Bernice just tell Luann she’s not hot?

In the end Luann is all about Luann, no matter how much sense Bernice talks to her. Tiffany got her thinking, not Luann’s strength.

HI! Let me put my understanding of this panel here, for what it’s worth. I don’t think Bernice is implying or meaning to imply that Luann is not hot. Luann is hot, one of the reasons Tiffany is such a dramatic foil for her is jealousy on Tiffany’s part, and insecurity, based on Tiffany’s own insecurity. The fact that Luann is insecure herself does not mean that Luann is not hot herself, it only means she is a teenage girl growing slowly into an, eventually it’s true, mature young woman. Bernice knows Luann better than anyone, and is being a friend even if she is snarky. Bernice also will make an excellent counselor, although professionally she would have to suppress her natural snarkiness. Besides if you can’t be snarky with your best friend, what hope is there left in the world (lol).

What’s the lesson here? you can have beauty, talent, intelligence, but not heart? Only ugly people are capable of having “heart”? And yeah, Luann you did blow it. What could have been a once in a lifetime growing experience in NYC got traded for a minimum wage job as a glorified babysitter. Oh lest I forget, you were just exercising “prudence”, or were you just scared?

Please, please don’t let Bernice turn into Miss Phelps. She has potential to be so cute, update the glasses, add some oomph to that tight tee shirt, keep her away from the prune farm.

Evans is hot to show us what he’s learned about tha thea-tah through his Luann musical, so go for it Lulu. Blow your meager daycare wages on a ticket to NYC (your parents just bought a warehouse, they don’t have extra cash anymore) to show Quill! how truly needy you are,Prudence will end up looking like Melissa McCarthy for comic effect and Quill! will reprise his "ticked off at Tiff scene from high school, only this time it’ll be directed at Luann..

Why is everybody being down on Bernice for suggesting that what Quill finds attractive in Luann isn’t her physical appearance? We’ve been down that road before:----Bernice is saying nothing more to Luann than what Nancy did! Luann’s own mother admits that Luann isn’t “hot”, in a cover girl sort of way. I’d be a lot more worried that Luann’s possessiveness shows that her “beautiful personality”, which is what appeals to Quill, is in fact suspect. She needs to remember Nancy’s advice that guys don’t like “needy” girls!-

8Today’s effort is heartwarming IMO. While some folks see Bernice’s “He doesn’t care about HOT” as a snarky jab at Luann…. I DISAGREE.I suggest that Bernice’s words “He doesn’t care….” is specifically talking about QUILL, not Luann. Bernice is saying that QUILL does not care if a girl is “HOT” or “NOT” because that is not the criteria he values. He is interested in the girl’s heart.Bernice was giving a VERY NICE complement to Luann, and she did NOT suggest Luann was “HOT” or that she “was not HOT”…. IMO.

Luann’s right. She should have gone. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again.

So, Bernice is saying Tiffany falls into the category “hot actress”?

Remember that Tiffany is only Happy when she is spreading Unhappiness and Misery to others.It’s her only real Talent..

If Luann loses her boyfriend to Prudence, it’s really for the best in the long run. Better now, than after they’re married! She’s a college freshman, for heaven’s sake. It’s normal for girls that age to have lots of boyfriends over the next several years. However, getting a boyfriend and keeping him has been Luann’s single overwhelming ambition, so she’s not about to risk being single for even a short while. She defines herself and her self worth in terms of her being in a relationship with someone else. That’s a shame, really.

Today, Bern showed that she really is a good friend (even though she can be pointed at times). Her remarks were about Quill and his interests not about Luann, her hotness or ‘notness’. And.. Bern came right over (to Luann) instead of just trying to deal with it over the phone.

Remember, “hot” is also in the eyes of the beholder. For me, a ripped T-shirt and tight Daisy Dukes do it every time.

The bigger issue is even Luann knows Quill can do MUCH better.

Luann is neither a plus nor a minus on the hotness scale, she is kinda’ the baseline. Bernice gets a + 2, Rosa scores a + 6 because she has it but suppresses it most of the time. Nancy and Toni + 7, Tiffany + 8 because she really works it, and Crystal + 9 because she looks good and has that “I dare you” attitude. If Crystal ever lets loose, she’ll go right off the scale and Greg will get monitored by the FBI.

So who else thinks this Prudence girl isn’t as nice looking as Luann thinks she is??

Prudence is 75 years old.
