I was singing that to my lady as she blamed the letter carrier for her bills. Doctor says my bruising will fade.

Johnny Cash also did a version of 16 tons, though not as well known as Tennessee Ernie Ford’s version. in the 50’s and into the 70’s it was common for various country artists to cover the same songs - often at very near the same times.

NOBODY will ever beat Tennessee Ernie Ford’s rendition. Noone in the world could ever make bass so melodic. I sure miss some of those old singers.

Then cover a soul hit that was never heard on a country station by the original group. Johnny Rivers got his start that way. (Useless Info 101)

Johnny Rivers made his entire career out of that. Dang freeholder, you’re old.

there aren’t many recording artists (i use that term loosely) who write their own material these days

^^ What formally was the artist is now the art. The record company molds and shapes the raw materials until it is profitable art

“Profitable Art” isn’t so profitable any more. Now, Big Record Labels want to be paid for something they should be PAYING FOR - free radio airplay… because they think that’s the only way to make money any more. That “Radio” in my handle ain’t there for looks, you know. Write / email / call your congrescritters to vote DOWN, a BIG NO, to the Performance Rights Act.

You know the Sledge Sisters song helps us understand what life is about:

“We are family I got all my sisters with me We are family Get up ev’rybody and sing

Ev’ryone can see we’re together As we walk on by (FLY!) and we fly just like birds of a feather I won’t tell no lie (ALL!) all of the people around us they say Can they be that close Just let me state for the record We’re giving love in a family dose.

Living life is fun and we’ve just begun To get our share of the world’s delights (HIGH!) high hopes we have for the future And our goal’s in sight (WE!) no we don’t get depressed Here’s what we call our golden rule Have faith in you and the things you do You won’t go wrong This is our family Jewel.”
