Pig: There's a big debate going on at my church about a dress code people don't like how casually some folks now dress for Sunday services. Zebra: So they want people to dress better? Pig: Yeah... And they're taking suggestions right now at a big church meeting. Jef the Cyclist: Spandex! Spandex! Spandex! Man: Sit down, Jef the Cyclist.

While in Texas, this heathen did what Texans do and attended a mega church service with the person with whom I was staying . Dressed in a pair of khakis and a polo shirt, I was the best dressed man there.

And a moment later, Jef was smote by a huge mallet from above, and there was much rejoicing throughout the land.

He’s not dressed appropriately- the zigzag lightning bolt is a symbol for Lucifer.

Would it be too much to ask Pig to at least put on a pair of pants?

I always thought getting dressed up for Church was silly anyway. People used to tell me “It’s to show respect to God” and I always replied “God was never more disappointed in humanity than he was the day humanity discovered they were naked.”

It’s doubtful that Jef and other bicycle types even attend church.

I don’t which I despise more: spandex at church or Jef the Cyclist anywhere….

Jesus was dressed better for a toga party than a church service today…

My temple should be a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves.

Would like to know exactly what Pastis has against cyclists since he always portrays them in such a demeaning way.Cyclists matter!

I don’t go to church on my own account, only occasionally if someone invites me for some reason, but I understand dressing for an occasion. Asking people to make a little extra effort to dress nicely does encourage them to take something more seriously.I doubt if Pastis has anything in particular against cyclists (could be wrong) but there’s a kind of person who equates his fitness quest with personal virtue. It’s an easily mockable type, and mockery is what Pastis does.

One of the books I’ve read has a character who just wants to wear casual clothes to church instead of itchy dress clothes, but his mom said it would be disrespectful to the Lord’s house.
His thoughts? “Personally, I think it’s disrespectful to be itchy in the Lord’s house.”

I am a slob and proud of it. But I dress for solemn occasions. I went to a wake the other week and I was shocked at the way people dressed, like they were at a picnic. No respect!

The much bigger problem is all of the RWNJ’s calling for guns to be allowed in churches (and bars, classrooms, parks, etc.).
vwdualnomand over 9 years ago
who cares what you wear to church? you can’t wear two different cloths, or go to red lobster because of a book. why not go in the nude?

Dear Waiting Man, disagree, the bigger problem is leftwing national socialists micromanaging our lives through the guns of government.

This must be the first appearance of Zebra in a couple months! Maybe Pastis decided he was too much trouble to draw?

When I was 13, I was told by the minister that I shouldn’t wear frayed bluejeans and a tee shirt to church. That was 43 years ago and I haven’t been to church since.

A general lack of respect for the institutions of civilized society is pervasive as far as I can see. Several years ago, when I was last called for jury duty, I found I was literally the only man out of roughly 50 to wear a jacket and tie. Like some other commenters, the only times I find myself in a church is for some sort of special occasion; wedding, funeral, any of a number of coming-of-age rituals. While not a believer myself, I do think it important to show respect for other people’s beliefs and traditions. When in Rome, you might say.

It is a respect thing – I feel you should wear your best to church, it’s a time to put aside the outside world as much as possible. That means that it is possible to overdress as well, but if your best is jeans and a tshirt, then that’s what you wear.

Pig goes to church? And all this time I thought he was Jewish:Not likely; he eats BLTs, because they taste so darn good.

I was about to say that people should be able to wear whatever they want at church but after looking at Jef the Cyclist… Well…. Yeah.

@Liverlips McCrackenI went to the New York Philharmonic and I was one of the few men to wear a jacket. It was during the summer, and most of the male audience members were wearing shorts and t-shirts.

well if Jesus showed up to the church you attend, would you let him in? what would he wear? would he look like the paintings or something totally different? what culture would he dress as? if he was in Africa would he wear a three piece suit? or if he were in Tahiti, would he wear a Dashiki? dress codes – mentioned in the Bible to my knowledge are simply to dress modestly. somewhat interesting debate. kind of like what color should the carpet be so God would be pleased.

I’d fight for the choice of pants or skirt. I don’t do skirts.
