Mary Lou: Well, the fall turnips are planted! This is where we began last year! We've come full circle! Mary Lou: It's been hard work, but no harder than the restaurant business! Gene: The sun took some getting used to! Mary Lou: We managed to bring in some good produce, in spite of our inexperience. Gene: We didn't make much money. Mary Lou: We didn't make ANY money!

Some people plant turnips on purpose? Next, they’ll be talkin’ rutabagas!

You don’t have to eat the turnips – the greens are good when salted properly. Mustard greens are better.

I was going to make a joke about a spinach pie,but the more I think of it, that doesn’t sound like a bad idea to me…I’ve had spinach quiche and it was really tasty….And yes I’m a real man…..

I actually like spinach in some contexts: spinach stuffed pizza, saag paneer (creamed spinach and cheese, Indian style).

RockDoc thanks for the tip….Hey, when did deep dish pizza become and inch of crust and just the normal toppings? A deep dish pizza used to mean it was a DEEP DISH OF PIZZA FILLED WITH ALL THE TOPPINGS! (Sorry for shouting)…..at least an inch thick….Not no more…..

My dad loved “pot likker,” which is what’s left after you finish your turnip greens (maybe with some roots added), which have been cooked with good cured hog jowls. O yummy. I love it, too!
