Tom the Dancing Bug by Ruben Bolling Doug: Max, I'm announcing my new diet. It's totally HARM-FREE to all living things. Max: You mean vegetarian? Doug: Ah, but vegetables are living things, and I will not kill them to satisfy my base cravings. Max: Not even vegetables? Doug: Nothing organic shall pass my lips! Max: But EVERYTHING you eat HAS to be organic! Doug: Au contraire! There is ONE food that is made of nothing that was EVER living!! Doug: I speak, of course, of MARSHMALLOWS! Max: What ARE marshmallows made of anyway? Doug: I'm not sure. I think they're a by-product of the oil refining process... Doug: Marshmallows, the polyester of foods, is the only wholly moral food! Max: But won't you get sick of eating JUST marshmallows? Doug: Nonsense! They're a surprisingly versatile staple! Here's a typical week's dinners... MONDAY Doug: Simple and elegant -- right out of the bag! TUESDAY The classic: roasted! WEDNESDAY Marshmallow taffy -- just mush it up! THURSDAY "Fluff," right out o' the jar! FRIDAY Rice Krispies treats -- hot out of the oven! Max: Now hold on, Doug! Rice Krispies?! And besides, I think marshmallows are made of corn syrup and gelatin... Doug: Ah, quit yer nitpickin'!

Where does the marshmallow get its name? From the “marsh mallow” plant, which is the origin of its flavor.

Yes, I think it’s a chicken leg-shaped marshmallow. Or may just an inorganic chicken leg.

To me, marshmallows are way too sweet and sticky to boot. I’ve roasted and eaten some to be polite, but that’s it. Strawberries and home-made tamales on the other hand …

Doug must be happy that this comic is now largely being viewed on device screens (cruelty-free, except for Congolese and Chinese people), rather than killed tree products, as in 1992.
