At least the states in the United States have the power to decide whether they’ll allow gay marriage or not. Here in Australia there’s a federal law preventing gay marriage, and neither major political party has any interest in changing it. So while it may seen odd (particularly to an outsider) that states such as California and New York still don’t allow gay marriage, at least there’s a possibility of change; and in the interim gay people don’t have to leave the country to get hitched.
It is deeply shame-making to live in a country more socially backward than the USA. ;-)
Wow, the strip seems to have avoided pushing an agenda while still making a statement, but Joe, you seem to be really excited about the subject! Can’t imagine why…. (grin)
Interesting as it is, a lot of the readers, me included I guess, are pretty much clueless about the fine points of gay society. It looks to be about as complex to understand as Japan in the 1800s, and just as easy to inadvertently insult someone too.
Why don’t we all chill out a little? After all, John did something pretty daring in the strip, and folks need time to absorb it. Heck, I learned a bit, but I sure missed the jokes.
If I had a vote (which I do not :) I would vote for more strips with Lila and Annie as the main characters for a few days.O
In this day of gender equality marriage if for:
1 having children
2 giving children a name
3 raising children
4No other reason except supporting lawyers.
If you are equal, marriage is about overpopulating the earth. A wife does not need physical or financial support. Tax and social security wise, equal earning spouses are a disaster. Nothing holy anymore, it’s about
over the last 2-3 years I’ve seen perky and fun Lila porph into a supporting character in a homosexual-slanted strip with which I simply cannot relate. I liked her better when she–dopey, kooky and wooly-headed duckiness and all–was the main character.
Don’t worry, billbruce and paul, Lila and Annie and all the quirks that come with Lila will be back next week. Story arcs are usually a week, but this one ran about a week and a half. Coming soon: Lila’s new job, Tad and Drew, Alan and Annie…hope you continue to enjoy the strip in the coming weeks!
Not great man. This strip was once a fun thing. Now no more than an advertisement for gay stuff. With you billbruce. Marriage is only because kids need a foundation, nothing to do with sexual gratification. Gay so-called marriages insult parents. If gays really do love each other why not just leave it at that.
bangalee - do straight marrieds without children insult parents in your mind? I happen to be a straight married parent, and very little other people do in their private lives insult me. However, people making holier than thou statements do…
Gay so-called marriage is the insult. Sorry if the extension of what I said could be seen to imply a difficulty if a normal couple cannot, or choose not to, have kids. Not intended. Not holier than thou or anyone else. Anyone care to compare sins to see who rates the highest.
There is reference to a marriage at Cana in the bible. The Bible is a great book. Various interpretations mean it can be used to prove black is white.
No reason why gays can’t live together, their choice. Marriage for them is what I cannot get around. All it means nowadays is it is a conduit for bags of money to flow into the coffers of lawyers.
Marriage gay,
What you say?
Happy now foreverday.
Till tomorrow, ‘nother way,
Meet another, better play.
Newly love and obey.
Leave you now, go away.
You agree, then all ok.
I completely agree, Joe. There are some things that should be left to the States, but basic human rights issues should be legislated Federally, and apply no matter where one lives in the USA.
It’s unconscionable that something like gay marriage, with its associated benefits, should be legal in on state and not in another, especially considering the mobility of the population today compared with its relative immobility in the late 1700s.

Heterosexuals don’t make a point of being that way, why do gays? Methinks they protest too much.

I would take the time to explain it to you but I think I will wait until you finish elementary school.

Try explaining now MisterWhite. My limited education may just see past your argument. Will have to be good though. You ready?

PhantomPlumber, a federal law in the US is not for lack of trying.

BANGALEE -
you may want to state your anti-gay opinions on another site… many people that post here are OK/pro same sex marriage.
and, NOT “so-called marriage” - one should be able to marry whomever one pleases.
