So- why's the sun up early now? Daylight savings time just started... Or ended. I can never remember. Anyhow, we moved all the clocks back hang on... Fall... Back? Right. Back. And now, the sons up earlier... See? You're just making this all up, aren't you?

Get rid of it.

I’m having a blast listening to my local favorite radio station. The DJ keeps saying we should “Stop having Daylight Savings Time” but then complains that it’s now dark at 5 pm. He’s forgetting that we’re now on Standard Time. It’s SUPPOSED to have been dark at 5 well before now.

Daylight Saving Time serves NO USEFUL Purpose. The entire idea was wrong to begin with. To continue this exercise is a prime example of mass stupidity.

Misery loves company. We, in Europe, complain just as much. And I have as much trouble trying to remember which is which every time we switch.

DST actually used to be called “War Time”. They actually went so far as to relabel the time zones “Eastern War Time”, “Central War Time”, and “Pacific War Time” etc. This was in order to conserve resources for the war effort in WWI and WWII – more daylight = less electricity use, more fuel for the war machines. The idea is to keep the window of daylight aligned with the clocks in modern, industrial societies. Not so important in agrarian societies where the work is sunup to sundown regardless of season or length of day.

I think so Eddie.

All the vitriol above put me in mind of Abe (Grandpa) Simpson from the eponymous TV show. “There are too many states! Why do we need North AND South Dakota?”

Last year in the NM Legislature a Bill was proposed to put NM on DST all year. Personally I liked that idea. I’d much rather have the light hours after work than before. I don’t mind doing morning chores in the dark and I like watching the sun rise but it is really depressing to get off work and have it be dark out already.Of course the Bill never got out of Committee.

I don’t understand why people get so annoyed over the clocks going back or forward. It only happens twice a year. Twice a year out of 365 days! Or 366 if it’s a leap year.xxx

Put it on DST and leave it there. Dark at 5:30 blows

Because of the constant tilting of the Earth (which creates the seasons), there are always going to be “dark mornings” and “dark evenings”, depending upon the time of year. It balances out in the long run.Messing around with the clocks does not stop the laws of physics and the inclination of the planet. There will be x amount of daylight appropriate for that particular day of the year. Now that we have returned to Standard Time we should leave it there. Anyone who absolutely must have that extra hour of daylight can get up an hour earlier.Congress is responsible for regulating the official time. Contact your representatives and tell them to put a stop to this practice once and for all.

What’s the big deal about changing time. If you live on the eastern edge of a time zone you are a sun hour different from some one on the western edge. Just roll with and keep your blood pressure under control. People who travel several time zones for a vacation manage to handle it.

@mike scott said: “Put it on DST and leave it there. Dark at 5:30 blows.”If you were on DST in December then sunrise wouldn’t occur until around 9:00 am. Please see my post above.

Sounds like Eddie and Toby slept that extra hour, but never noticed their parents setting all the clocks back one hour. Sarah could try telling Eddie that because all the clocks have been set back one hour, he and Toby are getting up one hour later than they had been while their area was on DST. Nothing concocted to confuse Eddie.

I wish. I’d rather we just did away with daylight time.

The USSR was all on Moscow time. Our 4 time zones correspond better with the sun, for where we are.
