Michael: Grandma! You should buy a snowblower!
Grandma: Why? It's your job to shovel. Why should a machine do your job?
Michael: Says the lady with a washing machine, a microwave and a dishwasher.
Really depends on the size of the area needing to be shoveled. When I lived on a 2/3 acre lot, using the push mower was about an hour of work, so no biggie. When we moved to a 5 acre lot, I had to get a riding mower. It took 3+ hours to use the push mower. When my wife tried to balk at the purchase of the riding mower, I suggested if she mowed the lawn once with the push mower, and still felt a riding mower was excessive, I’d not buy the riding mower. I bought the riding mower the next week.
My mom always said she didn’t need a dishwasher, she had 5 of them. But when we built a new house, and 3 of the 5 had left home, she decided that she’d better include a dishwasher in the design. She never regretted that decision. My sister & I were teenagers by then, and since Mom had started working full-time, we had all the other household chores to do.Sometimes it is more hassle to get a machine out to do a job, than to use a hand tool.
My son talked me into a snow thrower before he moved out. I’ve never regretted it. Yesterday’s snow was too thin and too wet, so I just pushed it off the driveway and front walk.

Yes… when men want a labor saving device, we’re accused of having too many “toys”, but just try suggesting going without a dishwasher…
