If Mike was this naive about humanity, it’s amazing he lived long enough to be abandoned by JJ…

Sometimes naivete in New York will get you killed, sometimes it’ll get you a Christmas tree in the lobby !

Sorry to ask a basic question, but does anyone know where Mike and JJ were BEFORE they moved to Manhattan?

My first post. I’ve been lurking here a while and enjoying what the rest of you post. I just started reading “Bonfire of the Vanities,” which is set in 1980s New York. The grim reality in that book makes Trudeau’s lighter touch very welcome. (But it’s a GREAT book.)

Is the dealer going to make it snow for Xmas?

When I was still waiting tables on the graveyard shift in a rural Texas university town, the drug dealers were some of my favorite customers. If they were treated well, they returned the favor.

“How about I deck the halls with your brains?”

ANYBODY would fall for JJ in a New York (!) minute.

Definitely bringing out the best in that drug dealer.

My father once noted moonshiner we knew was more generous and less bragging about charity than a local preacher we also knew.(Although, in the other’s defense, he probably called it “priming the pump” to inspire others to donate too.)
