Climate is to weather as traffic is to cars. So yes… you could say climate causes weather. Anyway, there is a relationship.

“our wasteful folly”. Now that is the crux of my non-belief. You all WANT it to be true so you can say I told you so.

And you wonder why people who have faith get mad at those who think only science is the answer? Simply attacking someones faith and calling it names isn’t going to win any anyone over. In fact, you make them more likely to disagree with you more. The climate is changing. No doubt about it. However, people can reasonably debate on how much is man-made and how much we can actually change the process. Also, is it a given that it will be worse for the world? Or is it more that we assume change is bad? It was certainly far warmer when the Vikings came to North America. But attacking faith like you did is just silly and pointless.

Amazing how many people with no knowledge of a subject think they know more than people who have studied the problem for years……………..

A funny comic today, and a funny comment, but I knew it would bring out the humorless crazies on both sides.

Wow. A massive flame war over “how’s the weather?” I believe you all just made the comic’s point..If something simple like warm weather drives you to an angry frenzy of political activism, then you are obviously incapable of being anything other than perpetually angry. I hope you enjoy it because it sounds like a really miserable way of life to me.

Why can’t we just get along and enjoy the comic? Jimmy’s writing is spot-on, his draftsmanship spare and elegant, and he has engendered great fondness and interest in his characters…the only complaint that should be allowed is,“Where’s Gene?” ;-)

JastMeI vastly prefer the definition of agnosticism used by Thomas Huxley when coining the word: some things cannot be proved nor falsified by the scientific method and must be taken on faith. Thus he and I (but not his celebrity nephew) can be both a Christian and an agnostic with no conflict. Indeed, until one and a half centuries ago, with “scientist” became an occupation, many of the scientific discoveries were made by clergy because they, like doctors and the nobility, had the discretionary time to spend on the subject.

Re panel 4: Jimmy really nailed it, about us here on GC, at any rate. Many of us (me guilty too) often fly off in different directions with our comments, and stray far from what the day’s comic, whether editorial or just for laughs, was intended!!(Ooops! I did it again!)

Hah! I love the white haired and white mustached fellows response!!!!! Wonderful! It has gotten too damn crazy when people have to get so riled up about things as a lot of folks do about global warming.I have deep spiritual faith, and I am a biological scientist. The reality is that the current scientific evidence available does strongly suggest that human activity is indeed leading to potentially catastrophic global warming. With our current evidence, it is prudent for us to act in the best way we know to reduce what we scientifically discern to be the factors we can control to reduce the probability of catastrophic global warming. Might the scientific evidence change someday? Yes. May politicians and other non-science interested folks disagree with the very idea of global warming? Of course. But, it does not negate the idea that we as a society need to use the scientific findings we currently have in the most logical fashion possible… even if they may later be supplanted by other data.

Whenever climate change is brought up, I have to wonder…How many of you who believe that humans are responsible for the climate changing have given up your motorized vehicles (cars, boats, snowmobiles, jet skis, etc)? How many of you keep gardens and grow food for personal consumption? How many of you keep your homes no warmer than 65% in winter and no cooler than 80% to 90% in summer (if you use air conditioning at all)?If you talk the talk, you should walk the walk. As far as I can tell, the people screaming about “global warming” the loudest, have done nothing on a personal level to combat it.If you have not personally done anything about what you perceive as a problem, then why should anyone else pay any attention to your claims?

“Climate is what you expect, weather is what you get.” (Ed Lorenz) It’s not a question of local or global, it’s a question of averages over many years versus instantaneous.

So, where exactly is the setting supposed to be. Janis is bundled up against the cold but he his raking his lawn with green shrubs. Like north Alabama or Tennessee or some such locale.

Thank you, PipeTobacco: there are a lot of us who appreciate the rigors of the scientific method and who have religious faith and find the two complement each other. Evolution is the poetry of God, showing us that we too can adapt to our individual circumstances and thrive. To Maizing: solar here, switched to an electric dryer because of it, and even our air conditioning costs us and the environment nothing. Bought the first Prius that came out and are saving our pennies for an electric car (and more panels to power it by.) So yes—there are quite a few of us actively working on doing our part to leave our children a healthier place to live to the best of our ability. Plant a tree. Deplete some carbon.

Looks like Jimmy, with an oblique reference to one of the two subjects Liza Doolittle was permitted to discuss, has launched a war among his faithful readers.

    It is a hoax.

Internal combustion vehicles: One Prius, no other.

    Grow food: Of course.

Have to in north Texas, but have sweaters in winter and go barefoot in summer, so essentially yes.

    Now, do you?
