Meanwhile….. um…. dd you guys not know that you can click on most strips here on GoComics to get a magnified image?
There are no magnifiers on Sherpa strips, and on a few others, like some reruns of older comics, where perhaps the higher resolution images are not available.
The problem for me was that I was focusing on the finger, not the entire man. Now I see how his skin texture has changed to match the painting. Comes the dawn.
A favorite Sunday pastime used to be to go to the beach and stop at all the open houses. These house were fully furnished and fun to walk through. I got several decorating ideas. One day my girls and I were touring a really huge house with all the luxuries. We were in the bathroom and suddenly there was this horrendous grinding noise. My oldest had pushed the ‘on’ button for the Jacuzzi tub and was frantically pressing all the buttons to turn it off! We finally managed to turn it off and beat a very hasty retreat. Needless to say, next time we went “touring” I reminded her NOT to press any buttons.
It’s not immediately obvious to me…and in fact it’s not so obvious even after careful study. People are talking about the “texture” here…to me the only thing I see is that his skin is the same color as the skin in the painting. And that could be perfectly natural. If you need to have the art enlarged a dozen times to see something, I’m afraid that I just don’t find it funny.
Boise Ed.. Speak for yourself! Some of us are old!LOLSeriously, I need to magnify every strip.
Alexi… You’re missing the point, suggesting a way to magnify the low resolution image on the page.Comics are posted at a reasonable size that will allow quick viewing and conserve bandwidth.
The “magnifier” function doesn’t really zoom.Instead, it actually links to a higher resolution image, containing more pixels, which at any given level of magnification will provide more detail.
As dsom8 said, control+ is a browser function. I would add that it works differently in different browsers, and with different settings. In Firefox, which is the best browser for my needs, the control function can easily be set to magnify text, without enlarging the picture at all. You could tap it till next Sunday but the image would look the same.I keep it that way, and suggest it to anyone with vision problems, because unlike every other browser I’ve tried so far, it makes the comment box text, and that in other online forms, a usable size, without having to deal with scrolling a giant page.
In any case, yes, someone might be able to magnify the items as originally presented on the page with his browser. Or keep a huge magnifying glass on the desk, or wear powerful reading glasses. All that has nothing to do with whether or not there’s a magnifier function on a particular GoComics strip, no matter how it works.
Please control your impulse to take a corrective tone with people, or to assume, without asking, that they don’t know basic computer functions.
@ATypicalReaderIt is the regular size on GoComics that is reduced, distorting what could be easily seen in the newspaper. In a lot of comics here, what looks like cross-hatching turns into dot dithering at the zoomed size (but not this one). I forget the correct newspaper term for that. I remember as a kid in the 70s watching a photo attached to a cylinder being read by a light beam and sensor.

Can someone point me to a summary of the formatting instructions for links and pictures? GoComics has taken down the ones I had bookmarked here.
