This is one of my all time favorites and that is saying a lot! Puck getting the notebook and Freddie and Tillie reunited— I can’t ask for more.

This is what the comic art form is for. Great storytelling in which the words and pictures work together to tell and show action, emotion, character, setting, and more, all in the most economical and elegant way. All that meaning compressed into a relatively small space, not a word or a line wasted, no filler, spiritually nutritious. What a gift you have. We are lucky that you share it with us.

I sat here and blubbed like a baby through the whole story, but especially this last installment. Thank you, Georgia, for a wonderful tale, even though it broke my heart.

Puck’s little forehead, mushed up against the glass. Tillie leaving her notebook for him. Tillie galloping flat-out into Freddie’s arms. Award for conveying the Happiest Sadness Ever goes to Georgia Dunn! From the mouths of babes: Bye, mow mow. “The tiniest box I could find.”

This choked me up. It’s all so sweet: Tillie and Freddie meeting, again; Puck’s adorableness; Elvis’ puffiness; robber mice watching the reunion and, earlier, popping out of the coffee cup.

The cats know. They sense what we don’t understand. I love how Puck is leaning up against the window.

Hello Georgia,
In panel 12 is that Tillie holding Pucks paws and kissing him on the forehead?

Georgia, I have always loved your strip, and this one is no exception. But I can’t tell you much I ADMIRE the fact that you addressed what the people were doing, no matter how well intended, and drawing the distinction between legal and ethical. Character DOES count, and yours will ALWAYS put your strip in its own unique category. (“Breakdowns can wait; what we need now is stability.” Georgia Dunn, February 2015)

I can’t play it cool—these comments have completely made my day!! Thank you, everyone! (@jimmjonzz and @Dogday88, you two in particular may have made me tear up a little…). This is the most a cartoonist can hope for after pouring their heart into a story. Thank you; thank you for reading it, thank you for loving these characters with me and thank you for going along a little bit longer of a ride than usual. These comments mean so much to me, and all of you reading this strip and taking the time to tell me makes me so happy. Thank you!!

How sweet! I love the way Elvis poofed!DO cats have religions? It looks like Puck was wearing a yarmulke. This has to be the best of any story and So cute at the end with Puck and the note!Poor Freddie had to wait to get across the rainbow bridge, but with the help of all the cats.. she made it.The people helped too of course, but that cats did all the work.Love that “Crackerjack”. must have been a popular saying in those old days time!
JeremyOne over 8 years ago
Perfect ending, Georgia, in ever so many ways.
My Jeremy – totally black, silky long hair – is two-years waiting just this side of the Bridge. I miss him so much; “he was a good boy”.
Thank you for the tale…awaiting the next CN adventure.

I am shamelessly adding my first song parody from the original website. From Peaches and Herb:
Freddie: Since I was little you were my best friend
Always together every day, and then
You were suddenly gone
And though I had to move on
I always knew my love for you would never end
Tillie: I went exploring like I always do
I heard a crash, it was the last I knew
Until one day I woke up
And met a new friend named Puck
That crackerjack kitty led me back to you (hey, hey)
Both: Reunited and it feels so good
Reunited, and we’ve understood
There is one perfect fitFor both human and kit-ty,
We know we’re both excited ’cause we’re reunited
The Orb: We’ve all just met you, but we still can see
Best friends forever we will always be
Lupin’s adventures are rad!
And even Elvis is glad
The very best is yet to come, wait and see (hey, hey)
Reunited and it feels sublime
Again together, for the very first time
So come on along, and join us singing this song
We’ll never be divided now we’re reunited!

This story arc had so much heart, it was like… Haunting of Meow Manor by Henry James for cats! It really brought a tear to my eye that after they laid kitty to rest, they met up finally in the afterlife… That’s really all anyone could hope for.
stevegayle over 1 year ago
I just discovered your comic and have already forwarded many of the short humor about cats/sleeping/territory/hoomansbut found the story arc about Tillie and Freddie particularly touching. I hope you have it in bound format for something toto give to my daughters/students to help them handle the griefof losing their cats when it happens. Well done, Ms. Dunn.I can speak to sad kids about a Rainbow Bridge, but your talereally hits the heart about loss and possibilities, that as cat’spawns we all go through someday (we drove past our `old house many times to see if our Mow put in a spectral appearance because Thing-1 was utterly disconsolate).
