In the 1920’s, bakeries paid you to eat their bread.

One thing to note is that Phoebe isn’t referring to an airline ticket. In the 1920s, many former military pilots purchased war surplus trainers (Curtis JN4 Jennys, mostly) and traveled around the country, landing in small towns and selling airplane rides for $5 a hop. This was up and around the town with maybe a few stunts thrown in, but NOT any form of transportation. The other thing to recall is that $5 was still a decent day’s wages in those days. So, if you factor inflation, that $5 plane ride was more like $100 today.

Actually, flying becomes cheaper (well, maybe more affordable would be a better term) – planes are carrying more passengers and are burning less fuel. Here, in Europe, You can get tickets from Warsaw to Stockholm for like 10$, via Ryanair or Wizzair. Or here-and-back direct flight from Warsaw to Toronto on a Dreamliner for under 700$. It is cheap :)

Actually, 5 dollars in 1920 is the same as almost 60 dollars in today’s money. So even adjusted for inflation, plane tickets have gone up.

Everything in older times was cheaper. Now everything raises except salaries. But on a side notes, looks like Marigold is happy to finally be the center of attention again.

I was going to say that in 1920 five dollars was a lot of money, but Joshua pretty much beat me to it.
