Reading these older strips, we know why Lucy tortured him so later on. Funny—in the strips from the 60s and 70s I always thought Lucy was older than CB.

Don’t forget Lucy used this tactic on Linus later on: “A man was born, he lived and he died. The end.” Linus, of course, managed to turn the moment into an existential question, but Lucy learned her lessons well.

Ummm, Chuck? You didn’t appear to be doing anything else at the time.

I’m beginning to understand why Lucy is so cruel to CB later on.

Maybe Lucy’s running gag with pulling the football away in later strips is her revenge for earlier years when CB would object to reading books to her.
