Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis for May 29, 2016

Pig: Hey, Benny the Bull. How goes it? Benny: Good. I'm learning how to impress women. Pig: How so? Benny: With this book, the 'Nose-Ring Dare'. It's all these crazy things you can do with nose rings. And women love it. Pig: Looks like you've high-lighted a lot of it. Benny: Oh, yeah. All the important parts. But this is just the one I've read. Pig: You have other copies? Benny: Yep. I have this unread version as well. I keep it in case anything should ever happen to the read one. God forbid. Rat: Dude, don't you think you're going a little overboard? It's a stupid book. Pig: That's rude, Rat. Be polite. Rat: Oh? Would it be polite or rude of me to stand on top of the read version? Benny: Rude! Off the read 'Nose-Ring Dare'! Rat: It's not even Christmas. Stephen: My puns are timeless.

Stephan, you could’ve put all that effort into strip that had a real story.

So what kind of “ring dare” games does Benny play?

I wish I had not read this tonight before I went to bed. Bad dreams all night now.

What’s scary is that it took Pastis 6 months to come up with this pun.

I think Stephan meant to say “My Puns Are Tasteless”?

If this hadn’t been explained to me< it would have taken me 6 months to “get” it !!This must be the worst yet.
By the way over here in UK Metro free Newspaper have dropped Pearls , I’ve written to them telling them I’m disgusted with them for depriving us of what little fun we had on our morning journey to work

Then there was the American tourist couple in the old USSR arguing over whether it was raining or snowing in Red Square. The husband asks their government sanctioned tour guide, Rudolf, to settle the matter. The guide says, “Is raining!” Whereupon the man says to his wife, “Well, Rudolf the Red knows rain, dear.”

Yes they are.

I was just thinking, “Benny the Bull” and how Stephen seems to name many of his guest animals in this manner. A name matching the animal they are. Which makes me wonder why we don’t get Roy the Rat, George the Goat, Peter the Pig, and Zifer the Zebra. Instead we just have Rat, Pig, Goat, and Zebra. Hell, even Larry gets a name.

Seven days without a pun makes one weak.

I’m still wondering what are all the crazy things you can do with nose rings. Might be worth getting one. Love this one!

Thank you Stephen … haven’t seen a long drawn out “punny” strip in a long long time … was expecting it today and you didn’t disappoint … the punchline was a bit too much, but thanks anyway

I knew the pun was coming. I told myself I shouldn’t read on. Yet I couldn’t … look … away …
Don’t know how you do it, Pastis, but you manage to our-pun yourself almost every time. Well done.

Are effective puns the “best” or the “worst” we’ve heard? Whichever way, this one is superlative! Thanks!

Stephan, love those puns. I never ever see them coming and always laugh, or groan, when I get to that last panel. Thanks for thinking up so many great strips. I appreciate you!

Congratulations, Cartoon-Boy! You fooled me with this one. Didn’t see it coming, and even at first didn’t catch it when I read it silently.Grudgingly, I must say, pun job well done! (But don’t let it go to your head….)

It may just be me, but every Sunday I always look at the last strip. If it’s Rat lambasting Stephan, I know it’s gonna be a good one.

The puns are just great…the best comic strip in the Sunday AJC.

I usually don’t write in or highlight physical books-I use ebooks for that because I don’t want to cause permanent change to the physical book. I guess if I had to annotate a physical book and it we’re a book I liked, I might get a non-annotating copy.
