Being named after a grandparent. I know that feeling. I am named after my father’s mother. First, middle and last.Let me ask you… How many kids these days are named Marietta?
I’m named after my Dad’s grandfather, Thomas Roberts, from Wales. There were a LOT of Thomas Robertses in the family. I don’t know where my parents got Scott. There were no other Scotts, on other side of the family, that I’m aware of. One thing was sure, none of us were going to be named after Dad, because he was never happy with his own first or middle name. We got the names he wished he’d had.
My parents chose Kent for my middle name from a baby name book. It means “Bright One.”My first name is Doyle after my Dad’s first name. They didn’t look it up first so the didn’t realize it means “Dark Stranger.” =)At least I get to tell all the ladies I’m the “Tall Dark Stranger” their moms always warned them about. (6’6")lol
It’s nutty some of the things parents name their kids. In my state we currently have a child whose first name is Princess and middle name is Leia. There is also a boy named Luke Skywalker. Don’t parents consider what that’s going to be like when you aren’t a little kid anymore? The teasing from peers would be bad enough, but just imagine sending out your resume with a name like that.
How about naming him after Isambard Kingdom Brunel, an English mechanical and civil engineer who is considered one of the most ingenious in engineering history. A 19th-century nerd.
My first and middle name comes from 2 of my mother’s older brothers. If I ever have a son, he will be named after my father but the names will likely be in reverse order. If I ever have a daughter, her first name will be my favorite Aunt’s middle name while my daughter’s middle name will be a variation on my mother’s middle name.
I agree Marietta is a lovely name. But most people call me “Mary” as a nickname, which happens to be my middle name.I miss how my grandfather would call me Marietta Mary.…*Alpharetta*… Now that’s creative!

If it’s a girl, don’t name it Rita. How about Cathy (Kathy?) Jr.
