I wonder in what beach it is. I know how hot sand can get, but the water? Where is that place?

This could be any beach in the Pacific Northwest on a hot summer day. The water is never warm!

Jersey Shore, too. Glad I live in SW Florida now. Gulf is always warm or cool; never COLD and our sand is caribbean powder. Never burns your feet. Should have moved here 30 years ago. LOL

@LeadingEdge is correct, I learned about it in science this year. Part of the reason the sand is warmer is because it absorbs sunlight faster than the water. And when cold or warm air rises, air comes up to replace it.

When Hobbes said he was going “furry dipping” I was expecting a different outcome!After all, the first victim in “Jaws” went skinny-dipping!

One year at Island Beach State Park, NJ the water was near 80 degrees. Sandy never burning hot all our Summer visits.

Wow, so many answers! That’s a first. Thank you to all of those of you replying. I was curious. I live in such a tropical place that the water is always warm. I guess it baffles me how the water can be so cold yet the sand too hot for comfort in certain places. Or perhaps that’s just Calvin exaggerating?

And, How is this Hillary’s Fault?

I never really go out in the summer unless I have to.

You can laugh now but I’ll be the one with smooth skin while everybody else is wrinkly.

Did that very thing this past Tuesday at Fernandina Bch, FL. Didn’t help that I’m barely three weeks post-op on foot surgery, so I had to break down and put my sandals back on, mostly for support for my foot. Bummer for a native Floridian…

Thanks for the answer LeadingEdge. I have taken Chemistry and Pshysics, but I could never understand Thermodynamics completely. I really should visit other places more often and experience all those amazing weather varieties myself.

Northern California dreaming, where we get that alaskan current. Have to walk in the surf. Finding a sandy shore instead of rocky one can be a challenge.
