I would have thought Gracie could count to around 5000, which is about the maximum you can see on a starry night. If she lived in a big city, that maximum would be lower, because of all the light pollution.
The number of visible stars pales in comparison to the total. I’m surprised Gracie hadn’t done any research on the numbers before beginning her field work.

Where I live I’m lucky to see two planets and one star. Light pollution is a big problem.
