Phoebe and Her Unicorn by Dana Simpson for June 23, 2016
Transcript:
Marigold: My sister Florence has sent me a brochure for a UNICORN SUMMER CAMP. Would you like to go? Phoebe: But I'm not a unicorn. Marigold: This camp has an exchange program, in which they accept the disadvantaged such as yourself. Phoebe: That's...cool and also kind of insulting. Marigold: Your failure to be a unicorn is not OUR fault.

The Unicorn Kingdom is on the other side of a portal of sorts. Perhaps they macic-ed it up from their side and invaded us.

Is my failure to know any unicorns not-your-fault as well?

Her failure to be a unicorn is obviously due to her poor choice of parents.

Maybe it’s not your fault, but it isn’t our fault either the way we are born. Talk about narcissistic.

Besides, unicorn ringtoss can lead to headaches if you have the “pole” position.

Simpler days, I remember camping out overnight underneath a huge wild cherry tree and watching the fireflies. I was fortunate that we had a library truck that stopped two blocks from my home every Friday. Would make the trek down and come back with 8-10 books that would be read by the next week. The driver knew my likes and would load up some just for me. Generally science fiction-Isaac Asimov, Andre Norton, A. M. LIghtner, Heinlein, Anderson, Laumer. Also history and some general fiction.
