Arlo: You know how we feel tied down by stuff we've accumulated?
Arlo: We put one thing a day on the curb...
Janis: And the neighbors will run us out of town!
I don’t know about putting something out every day, but at least on “trash day”. Some places have a day once a month where you can put out as many things as you want. I even saw a pool table one time.

Our county doesn’t have any bulk pickup; you have to haul large items to the dump yourself. Fortunately, we only live a mile from there, but a lot of other folks aren’t so lucky.
Our town has developed the notion of putting things curbside with a free sign on them. For the most part it works pretty well. Sometimes people take advantage and drop off trash.
I felt sorry for one young girl. She’d brought home ALL her wedding preparations in boxes. Unloaded them from her car, and was going to carry them into the house, one box at a time. By the time she came out, the rest were gone. She called the police. The police were polite, and took her report and told her they would do all they could…but "lady, in this town, leaving anything in by the curb means it’s “free”! You really can’t fault someone for picking up the boxes." In the comments under the story in the news, people felt sorry for her, but, yes, never ever, leave anything by the curb unless you want it carted off.
I put “decent” stuff at the curb on the weekend. It typically disappears within half an hour. I’ll wander the neighborhood on Garbage Eve – I got my Weber grill that way. Wheeling it home three blocks was pretty funny.
A lot of places have Freecycle.com like we do here. We’ve given away some bulky stuff you’d think maybe nobody would want. Ie: leftover vinyl flooring and faded patio cushions. It’s great. I am of the last remaining generation that hates to throw anything away, if it has any possible use left in it.
In our town we’ve found that the free sign doesn’t work too well, but in the morning change the sign to $15 (or whatever is appropriate) and it’s gone by the next morning.A friend’s child went to college in a nearbye town. They learned to take their biggest vehicle to pick him up at the end of the school year. Lot’s of nice stuff left sitting at the curb – and lots of vehicles prowling the student areas.

I have one of those wheeled chairs in front of my desk; couldn’t ever part with it. I used it at my job, they let me have it when I retired.
