Francis Bellamy, famous for writing the Pledge of Allegiance(to the flag), was a devout Christian Socialist. He was also strongly opposed to any mention of God in the Pledge.
Baptist ministers, and the country, were much different 125 years ago than they are today.
His cousin, Roger Bellamy, also a Christian Socialist, was also influential.
Wisdom’s wisdom, Carmen. But I am still going to vote for Hillary because I like her better and against Dump because he would destroy (and I am not snarky here) the country.
Darsan, repeat after me, “Hillary wants to amend the First Amendment to prevent film makers from criticizing politicians. And she will do so in the usual leftist way, not through the Amendment process, but by appointing Supreme Court justices who ignore plain language in favor of political biases.”
I always thought it ironic that in the first election those in Arizona could vote for president (1912), the Republicans came in fourth; Wilson (D), Roosevelt (P), Debs (S), and Taft® in that order. Nationwide,® came in third.
hippogriffI typed R, not ®. It was still correct when I hit Submit. I am reasonably sure it was intact when it displayed and I moved on to the next. What is going on?

Ironic that back in those days the “conservative” mantra was “Better Dead Than Red”.

I’d rather vote to get 60-70% of what I want, even if my opponents get the same in other areas.
That’s called Democracy, not self-centered idiocy
