Frazz by Jef Mallett for August 19, 2016
Transcript:
Caulfield: I think what really bugs me about going back to school...is having to wear long pants again. It's encouraging that happiness can be as simple as letting your knees breathe. Frazz: A nice theory that doesn't explain unhappy women in skirts. Caulfield: You haven't heard my mom go on about panty hose.

Now they’re just struggling for conversation’s sake. When you come right down to it, a guy would like to let a lot more of his body get some air! Women, too, I guess.

My Dad told me that in his elementary school days, boys complained about having to wear short pants.
Of course they wore knickers, which didn’t let their knees do much breathing…but they were dying to be considered old enough for long pants.
When I was in 6th grade, girls similarly begged their parents to let them wear longer, straighter grown-up skirts, instead of little-girl short full ones.
By the early 70’s, 9th grade girls begged for shorter miniskirts…and longer hair.
It’s only the details that change.

I substitute in middle and high schools…..You want to see short skirts? Ever seen cute looking, 6 ft. tall, 18 year old girls in yoga pants bending over to pick up books??…I don’t think I’m the first person to notice that some young women like to flaunt it, and do it very well….God bless them all….Sure I’m a gentleman, but I’m not dead either.

Must have a dress code at his school. Most of the elementary schools around here let the kids wear shorts to school.

Belch, pantyhose are the most evil waste of money ever invented. A fragile pair of socks that lasts about two days if you’re really lucky.

Any guy that has gotten into a heavy make-out session with a girl in a skirt, and discovered the pantyhose, has also learned to loath the @#$% things.

Panty hose were a great relief from girdles. My mom used to wall in the door from work and say “Don’t talk to me until I take off my girdle!”

I wear long (mostly cotton) skirts in summer, especially when I’ll be in and out. When I’m outdoors, my legs have air circulation. When I’m indoors, the fabric blocks A/C drafts. And those from when you enter the freezer aisle. Keeps my legs, and me, happy

I used to love wearing long dresses & skirts. In the summer, bare legs with sandals. In the winter, with thick leggings and knee socks. However, I’ve found that full skirts and wheelchairs don’t go together well. Not great if one has to lie down to avoid fainting, either. Pretty much stuck with pants, now.

Shorts were always acceptable for boys throughout school, but where Frazz takes place gets cold a lot faster than where I finished school. More like the years I spent in Upstate NY.

in SC, most evryone, but especially kids, M & F, wear shorts and flipflops year ’round.

Actually, Smiley, long skirts are great for a good cover if you have balance issues and fall a lot.

OK, are pantyhose still OUT because Michelle Obama hates them?Or are they back in because Kate Middleton LIKES them?I can never remember!

You guys donʻt know the half of it. Spend a year living within a block of two of a high school in Hawaii. When I went to school girls didnʻt look THAT good!!!

Pantyhose are the best protection against a world of UGLY legs. Yes, you can still see them through pantyhose but they look better held in and colored by hosiery. Even as a woman I am sick to death of ugly, white, bulgy, discolored legs hanging out everywhere, and bare feet feeling like they’re stuck in my face when women ungracefully cross those bare legs.

I could go into a long tirade on the inequality of clothing (specifically men being unable to wear sandals, shorts, and tanktops in business settings, when women can (yeah, yeah, it’s called a dress, but it’s still essentially shorts and a tanktop (talking about short dresses that stop at the knees or just above, obviously))), but this is a comic strip, so it wouldn’t do any actual good.

Here in Pugetopolis we (male, female, young, old) dress to be comfortable in whatever weather we have. Fashion? What’s that? Socks and sandals? Why not? We don’t judge and don’t let fashionistas dictate what we choose to wear. Hooray for the heavy Scandinavian influence — uff da!
